Stationery items mini project

This project should last approximately 8 weeks, including Songkran, and is designed to develop your skills in ‘basic’ researching; analysis; material choice; 2 point perspective sketching and communication methods (you can use Procreate for this or ‘traditionally’ using marker paper); elliptical 3D sketching; 2D Sketching; aesthetic / styling foam modeling; ‘hard’ functional modeling; prototyping; CAD modeling; and a final working product - either made by hand or through CADCAM / 3D Printing.

You have a choice of Client from the list below, and you should take your design ‘cues’ from their styling. Potential clients are:

Grovemade - https://grovemade.com

BMW

Dyson - https://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners

Apple

Land Rover / Jaguar - https://www.landrover.co.th

Dualit - https://www.dualit.com

JCB - https://www.jcb.com/en-us

Piaggio Vespa - https://www.vespa.com/en_EN/

Aston Martin - https://www.astonmartin.com/en-gb/our-world/brand-stories

Braun - https://us.braun.com/en-us

Alessi - https://alessi.com/collections/bagno

Leica - https://en.leica-camera.com

Maglite - https://maglite.com

Rugby School Thailand

Nintendo

Lego - https://www.lego.com/en-us

You will need to briefly research the Client and present your research as a ‘Client’ board / mood board.

What you have to design:

To design a Sellotape / Scotch tape (or mini tape) dispenser, as well as 1 accompanying item of stationery, for your chosen client from the list above. Your design should embody the company’s values and ‘design cues’.

What we expect to be submitted:

1 - 2 x full fluid design sheets filled with ideas / developments / thoughts, in 2D and 3D 2 point perspective sketches, including the use of blue pencil and fine line pen. We expect to see some ideas / developments that are rendered using markers or airbrush (Procreate) / markers and shading etc.; at least 1 x aesthetic appearance styrofoam model; CAD development to enable 3D printing; 1 x final product.

You will need to work hard, fast and will have to use your free time / Prep time / priority time / lunch time and possibly your own time. Workshops are always available for you so use them. You will need to decide how best to use your time - other students may be working on different elements at different times to you and that is fine. There are no preconceived ideas of what materials you will use or what your final outcome will look like.

You need to present your work as an electronic portfolio using PowerPoint or Keynote. The format should include (but not be limited to):

Opening slide with your name and title of your project; Research and analysis (sellotape dispensers / client / values and design cues); Design Ideas & Development; evidence of appearance modeling; a final design; CAD modeling; Final Product outcome.
