Industrial Action – School Closed Thursday 11 June

A reminder that due to industrial action, and in order to keep students and staff safe, all ACT public schools will be closed for the full day on Thursday 11 June 2026.

Woden Community Services will be running an onsite care program. This service requires children to be pre-booked and registered.

P&C Disco

A big thank you to our P&C for running a fabulous disco on Tuesday. It was extremely well attended, with our students showcasing plenty of moves and grooves throughout the night.

It was also wonderful to see so many parents and carers joining in and getting up to dance as well.

Flu and Gastro

We are currently seeing a significant increase in students presenting with flu and gastro like symptoms. As we move through this time of year, it’s not uncommon for illnesses to spread more easily among children and staff.

We kindly ask for your support in keeping our school community as healthy as possible. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they have fully recovered. If we contact you during the school day because your child is showing signs of illness, we ask that you collect them promptly and seek medical advice if necessary.

Like you, we want every child to be healthy and learning at school. Sending sick children to school increases the risk of illness spreading and can disrupt learning for everyone.

Michael on Leave

Michael will be on leave from Thursday 11 June to Monday 22 June.

During this time, the Principal role will be shared by Andrew Buesnel, Principal of Maribyrnong Primary School, and Kylie Moller, Deputy Principal of Maribyrnong Primary School.

If you see Andrew or Kylie around the school, please say hello and help make them feel welcome to our community.

Evatt Shines at Belconnen Regional Cross Country!

On Tuesday the 21st of May, nearly 50 of our amazing Evatt Primary students headed out to compete in the Belconnen Regional Cross Country Carnival. Facing stiff competition from both public and private schools across the entire Belconnen region, our students did us incredibly proud. Under a beautiful, sunny sky, every single Evatt runner held their head high, demonstrating exemplary behaviour and giving 100% effort in every race.

With roughly 120 runners in every event, crossing the finish line was tough—but making it to the top 10 was a massive feat. The ultimate prize was a ticket to the ACT Championships on the 12th of June, and we are thrilled to announce that five of our outstanding athletes have qualified!

Our ACT Championship Qualifiers:

• Antony J (8 yrs) – 2nd place (1km in 4:09)

• Archie N (8 yrs) – 6th place (1km in 4:14)

• Ashlyn K (8 yrs) – 8th place (1km in 4:37)

• Briony L (9 yrs) – 7th place (1.5km in 7:14)

• Jordan S (10 yrs) – 10th place (2km in 9:16)

What an unbelievable effort! Please join us in wishing these five athletes the absolute best of luck as they represent Evatt Primary at the ACT Cross Country Championships next week! 

Evatt Primary Athletics Carnival Success

Last Friday, Evatt Primary School held its annual Athletics Carnival. For the first time in many years, the event was proudly hosted on the school’s adjoining oval. Despite a worrying weather forecast earlier in the week, the conditions cleared up beautifully, providing a spectacular autumn day for our students.

Throughout the day, students from Years 2 to 6 participated in a full rotation of track and field events, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and effort.

The Day's Events:

• Track Events: 70m, 100m, 200m, and 800m sprints and distance runs.

• Field Events: Shot Put, Discus, and Long Jump.

The carnival was a resounding success, concluding with a lot of exhausted but proud young athletes.

Special Thanks to Our Community

An event of this scale relies heavily on community spirit, and we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped prepare the grounds and run the day so smoothly:

• Ian Parker for his hard work in restoring the Long Jump pit.

• Jaia Pritchard for supplying the boundary roping that gave our oval a professional look.

• Glen Massey for his tireless efforts and hours of extra work preparing the ovals.

• The Melba High School students who assisted with track and field officiating, and enthusiastically led impromptu Nutbush and Macarena dance sessions.

• Ken from Line Mark-It for laying out the track and field lines 

• Our amazing parent volunteers and Evatt staff who guided and cheered students through each station and ensured the day ran seamlessly.
