Well done to our year 5/6 students who ran a wonderful Market Day today. All of the students at Evatt Primary School had a fantastic time making their way around the different stalls and enjoying the activities on offer.
This day was designed and run in conjunction with the year 5/6 HASS Economics unit of work. Our students have loved the hands-on approach to their learning.
Thank you to our P&C who ran the special lunch order day today.
All families new and current are invited to attend an information session next week about how teaching and learning looks at Evatt Primary School. This will be facilitated by Jamal See and myself.
We will also have some time to address specific information for students starting in Kindergarten in 2024. Details are below;
When: Thursday 16 November
Where: Evatt Primary School Library
Time: 5pm
Our move up / transition session for Kindy, new students to Evatt and all current students will be Week 9 Thursday 7 December 12.15-1.15pm. This is where all students attend without parents and spend an hour in one of the kindergarten rooms for 2024. For all new students to the school bring your child to the front office and executive staff will take them to their classroom.
Congratulations to Josh and Lachlan Scarth who both competed at the Australian BMX Championships in Shepparton, Victoria, last week. Both boys rode their hearts out and can be very proud of themselves. Overall Josh finished 6th in the 9 years boys category and Lachlan 15th in the 12 years boys category. Well done boys.
If your child or children are moving on from Evatt Primary School for 2024 could you please let the school know. This will help us with our planning for next year. Obviously students in year 6 are excluded from this.
Our wonderful Evatt teachers will soon start to prepare class groupings for 2024. If you would like to share something to be considered in relation to your child and their placement in a class, could you please send this to michael.hatswell@ed.act.edu.au
From 2024, there will be 4 student-free days for ACT public schools. These are the first day of each school term:
Term 1, Monday 29 January 2024
Term 2, Monday 29 April 2024
Term 3, Monday 22 July 2024
Term 4, Monday 14 October 2024.
We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment. Student-free planning days have been expanded from 1 to 4 days from 2024 as part of our new Teaching Staff Enterprise Agreement which prioritises better teacher workloads for educational leadership, teaching and learning. As you may be aware, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases across ACT public schools in recent weeks.
To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:
Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.
Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.
Keep up to date with vaccinations.
Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school. Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.
Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Distance where possible.
For the latest COVID-19 advice please visit the ACT’s COVID-19 website.

What activities would you like the P&C run? What would you like the P&C to fund?
The P&C needs your help! We appreciate that people are busy, but without help to run events, we won't be able to continue to run events for the kids. A lot of work goes into organising events and activities behind the scenes. Not everything is done during the day. We need help for the following:
Special lunch days - packaging up meals and serving to the kids
Writing comms on activities for the school community
What's your skillset, I'm sure we can use it!
Without the help of our community, we can’t run activities and events. If you can spare an hour or two, please contact the P&C at evattpspc@gmail.com.
Messages for the Evatt School Board can be sent to info@evattps.act.edu.au.
Transport Canberra has announced today that a new bus timetable will be implemented from Monday 9 October to align with the start of the school Term 4.
The timetable features more frequent weekday bus services, most of which will run at least every 30 minutes throughout the day.
A return to 30 minute daytime frequencies will ensure improved off-peak services can be provided between 9.30am and 3.30pm, while maintaining reliability. The increased frequency has resulted in changes to the first and last service times for some bus routes.
Some refinements have also been made to 14 school services based on school and community feedback, and to align with updated school bell times.
The new timetable does not include changes to weekend bus services and there are no changes to light rail frequency.
Thank you to all Parents/Carers who have already paid for their Student Learning Resources and donated a Voluntary Contribution.
