Evatt Cross Country
A big thank you and well done to the entire Evatt community for a fantastic whole school Cross Country carnival last Friday. Well done to all our students for completing the course and congratulations to the students who received place ribbons at this morning's assembly. We look forward to cheering on these students at the upcoming district carnival. Thank you to Ben Sterland and his team for the coordination of the event.
Student Centred Reporting 2021
Over the past term we have been working with our staff and school community seeking feedback about the most effective ways to share and discuss student learning and progression. Thank you to the parents who submitted feedback about this last term. It is very clear that families highly value the regular learning snapshots shared through seesaw as well as discussing learning with our classroom teachers.
With a focus on increased sharing of real time learning through seesaw, progress based discussions and enhancing our connection with our families we will be making some adjustments to our reporting this year.
Semester 1 Reporting will include;
A - E Report
Progress against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards
Progress against ILP goals (if applicable)
Progress in regards to Personal and Social Capabilities
Future focused 3 way (student/parent/teacher) discussions in week 10 of term 2
Semester 2 Reporting will include;
A - E Report
Progress against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and a general comment
Progress against ILP goals (if applicable)
Progress in regards to Personal and Social Capabilities
Optional parent/teacher interviews in week 10 term 4
I look forward to seeing families in week 10 for future focused discussions with their classroom teachers.
P&C Mothers Day Stall
Thank you to our P&C who ran a wonderful mothers day stall for our students today.
Hopefully our mums and/or important others receive something nice from your child(ren) this Sunday which they purchased at school today.
To all our Evatt mums and caregivers, we hope you have a lovely day and get to spend some quality time with your child(ren).
University of Canberra Partnership
We are very excited to partner with the University of Canberra in the “A Good Start to Life” project which aims at supporting our families in enhancing their children's readiness for school. UC will be working with us on a range of community programs, supports and events over the next three years. Keep an eye out for a range of opportunities that you and your family can take part in.
Preservice Teachers
Over the past two weeks we have had 8 preservice teachers from the University of Canberra having practical experience at Evatt learning to be teachers of the future.
They have had the opportunity to be in most classrooms as well as spending time with the executive team. With a global teacher shortage it is critically important we play a role in helping mentor and develop outstanding future educators.
Thank you to Talitha Wilson for her coordination of the preservice teachers.

The Nest @ Evatt
You might have noticed a bit of work going at Evatt around the corner from the Front Office. We’re excited to finally be opening our brand new community hub and cafe, The Nest. This space has been collaboratively established in partnership with the P&C and supported by the ACT Education Supporting Parent Engagement Grants. The space includes a fully functioning café, quality literature, our school uniform store and much more.
The Nest has been built around the Future of Education Strategies Foundation of Strong Communities for learning.
The strategy outlines:
A strong education system requires a strong community, with schools acting as a hub for education and support services.
Recognising that teachers and school leaders work in partnership with families, support staff and other professionals, results in a reorientation of schools as multi-service environments. Practitioners, policy makers and system leaders must innovatively collaborate to ensure strong supports in and around schools.
We would like to acknowledge the work of our outstanding Building Service Officer, Brad Spence who went above and beyond to work on the space. Thank you Brad, the Evatt Community will appreciate your hard work for many years to come.
On Thursday, The Nest hosted the first of hopefully many workshops for parents/carers focusing on supporting their child's learning. This workshop focused on supporting your child's reading progress. We ran two separate workshops, one from 9:00 - 9:30 and another from 3:00 - 3:30. It was exciting to see so many families in attendance.
From next week, The Nest will be open every day from 8:40am - 9:00am for parents/carers and students to engage in shared reading before school.

Melba Copland Secondary School Arts Academy
Evatt Primary School have been involved in the Melba Copland Secondary School Regional Arts Program – Dance, Music, Singing and Community Musical Programs over the course of the last 9 years since its commencement in 2012.
As the Regional Arts Program continues to build, MCSS are looking at providing an after-school Arts Academy Program which will be available for students in Years 4-6 in our feeder school area. The aim of this program will be to provide students from Evatt Primary School with the opportunity to train in Dancing, Acting, Singing, Cheerleading and Visual Art in a low cost capacity, and would also involve yearly performance and showcase opportunities at Copland Theatre.
Students would attend weekly after-school workshops at MCSS at a cost of $50 per semester for each Arts discipline they choose to participate in. The minimum commitment for this program would be one semester.
If the Arts Academy is of interest to you, please can we ask you to complete a very short (3 question) survey so that we can identify what interest we have in the Arts Academy Program.
Please complete the survey at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSftO6sRH1QGEs3LNLmL7O5FSKZB4_iRMRuj-uUnf12u63_DIg/viewform?usp=sf_link
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. If you have any questions regarding the MCSS Regional Arts Program, please do not hesitate in contacting Joni Wood at joni.wood@ed.act.edu.au or on 61420333
