We have had a fabulous couple of weeks at Evatt Primary School celebrating Book Week and our Book Fair. Our students and staff looked amazing last Friday for our dress up day and the students had a great time participating in the book week rotations.
This week, it has been wonderful to see so many families purchasing books from our Book Fair stall. Books are always great additions to family homes and it also helps us raise valuable funds for the school. Thank you to Deb Bultitude for her coordination of this.

Recently, Evatt Primary School hosted around 15 principals and senior executives from the Education Directorate to share our approach to inclusion for students and families at our school. This included a tour of the school to look at our learning environments and observation of our teachers and LSAs modelling inclusive and engaging practices. The visit concluded with Jamal and I sharing our approach and vision which will be used to guide the ACT Education Directorates Inclusion strategy that is being developed.
It is always a privilege to share and showcase our wonderful staff and students and the great things that are happening at our school.
Thank you to our P&C for running our Fathers Day stall this week. The students have enjoyed picking a gift that I'm sure will be received by their dad or special person on Sunday. Happy Fathers Day to our dads this Sunday!
A reminder that our Bike Club runs every Friday at B1. We have over 80 students registered that attend in a three week rotation. If you would like your child to join please grab a form from the front office.
Please note that your child needs to be able to ride a two wheel bike.
Another huge thanks to our parents volunteers Duane, Seymour and Anna for their expert bike tuition for our students each week. Below are some snaps from today's K,1,2 session.
Spring has sprung and hats are back on at school! 1 August is when our UV period increases to a high level. Please make sure your child has a sun safe hat with their name on their hat.
A friendly reminder for families that have not yet paid their Voluntary Contributions or Bookpack funds that part payment options or payment plans are more than welcome. This can be arranged confidentially through the front office.

As you may be aware, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases across ACT public schools in recent weeks.
To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:
Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.
Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.
Keep up to date with vaccinations.
Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school. Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.
Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Distance where possible.
For the latest COVID-19 advice please visit the ACT’s COVID-19 website.

The P&C needs your help! We appreciate that people are busy, but without help to run events, we won't be able to continue to run events for the kids. A lot of work goes into organising events and activities behind the scenes. Not everything is done during the day. We need help for the following:
Special lunch days - packaging up meals and serving to the kids
Writing comms on activities for the school community
What's your skillset, I'm sure we can use it!
Without the help of our community, we can’t run activities and events. If you can spare an hour or two, please contact the P&C at evattpspc@gmail.com.

Following on from last fortnight’s focus on Mindful Parenting, this week’s resources comes from a suite of videos prepared by ACT Education Senior Psychologists:
https://www.education.act.gov.au/support-for-our-students/wellbeing-support-resources-for-students-and-families
The videos cover understanding and responding to a child’s anxiety and tips about supporting a child when they’re feeling anxious and help us to be mindful of their needs.
This link will also take you to a series of short mindfulness podcast guides. “Mindfulness is the act of attempting to be focussed on where we are and what we are doing in a particular moment. Trying to pay attention to the surroundings and being curious about what we notice. While some people are still when being mindful others may prefer some movement.”
Your child is also provided with opportunities during the school day to practice mindfulness through a brain break, or mindful movement. Why not practice with them at home? It can be as simple as taking a mindful bite of dinner together, smelling the toothpaste when brushing your teeth, or noticing the spring flowers that we’ll soon have blooming around us 😊.
Hope it’s a mindful start to Spring for everyone.
