Hi Evatt families,
As always at Evatt, we’ve had a massive few weeks at Evatt. Read below to find out about some of the happenings across the school.
The Nest
The Nest Café & Community hub has been action packed few weeks. This space has been collaboratively established in partnership with the P&C and supported by the ACT Education Supporting Parent Engagement Grants. The Nest includes a fully functioning café, quality literature, our school uniform store and much more.
We’ve already hosted two interactive workshops for families focusing on strategies to support their child's reading development, a workshop focusing on resources, interventions and community activities available to support your child, and the first of our weekly Giggle & Wiggle mornings hosted by Libraries ACT.
The Nest Café is open every day from 8:40am - 9:00am for parents/carers and students to engage in shared reading before school.
5000 Feather Party
Today we celebrated reaching 5000 feathers as a school (8000 in total this year) with our 5000 feather party. From Break 2, we had a dance party happening on the multi, movies in the library, an icy-pole station, and a variety of active games and activities across the playground. Our student school improvement team made a last-minute decision today to make the day a mufti day, so students were able to wear casual clothes to school. Students and staff had a fantastic time celebrating all our hard work this year being safe, respectful learners.
Stay tuned for our next goal and celebration!
Giggle & Wiggle
As mentioned above, we're excited to continue our Giggle & Wiggle partnership with Libraries ACT which kicked off yesterday.
Giggle & Wiggle is an enormously popular program for babies and toddlers, 0-2 years of age, and their parents or carers. At Giggle & Wiggle, we sing songs, dance, and share rhymes and aim to boost your child’s language development – all while having a great time!
Running every Thursday for the remainder of Term 2 (Week 5 - 10) starting at 9:10am. Giggle & Wiggle is open to all Evatt Primary School families. While the program targets 0-2 years of age, older non-school age children and their parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Registrations essential. To book your place, please fill out the form at https://bit.ly/giggleatevatt
Please note that parents/carers are required to stay for the duration of the program and are responsible for the duty of care of their child/ren.
Reconciliation Week Breakfast
National Reconciliation Week begins next Thursday, May 27.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
On Friday, 28 May, Evatt Primary School will be hosting a reconciliation week community breakfast and assembly. As part of this, we will be cooking up pikelets with indigenous Australian ingredients and have peppermint tea made with local ingredients available. The breakfast will start at 8:15am in the barnyard. The Nest Cafe will also be open for families to access during this time.
Student School Improvement Team
All our teachers are part of one of four school improvement teams that implement key actions to create a positive learning culture with effective teaching and learning.
These teams are:
Literacy
Numeracy
Sustainability & Future Skills
