This week Evatt Primary School has embraced the recent changes to the revised ACT Public Schools COVID-19 Management Plan. Importantly we are excited to share that parents and carers are welcome onsite in the outdoor spaces and indoors by appointment. Parents and carers are welcome to attend our 9am morning meetings at the Barnyard/Basketball Court and our Friday Assemblies where we share our Flying High Awards. Some of the changes include:
Students have access to the whole playground without cohorting.
Staff can teach without a mask.
Students and visitors are not required to wear masks on school sites, though are welcome to do if they wish
Cohorting is no longer required across the school
There are some important measures that have not changed. Some of these include:
Physical distancing when possible
Staying home when students or staff are sick
Additional cleaning of touch points will be maintained across the school
All ACT public schools have Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) plans in place to increase fresh air circulation
Rapid Antigen Tests are available to the community upon request
Continued focus on personal hygiene such as hand washing, coughing or sneezing into elbows, use of sanitiser for everyone onsite etc.
As always if you have any questions about our approach to COVID please touch base.
Our Sustainability School Improvement team is excited to be running ‘Waste Free Wednesday’ every Wednesday of Week 5 of each term. We are aiming to reduce the number of wastage items in students' lunchboxes to help protect our environment. Students that have a waste free lunch box will receive a raffle ticket to win some great prizes. We will remind you of these days via seesaw closer to the date each term.
Evatt is the best place to vote this year on election day!
Saturday, 21st of May, the school will be a hive of activity. Not only will you be able to vote for the federal election, but also grab:
A barista coffee from the pop-up Nest Cafe
A democracy sausage
A bacon & egg roll
Fresh baked chocolate croissants
There will also be raffle tickets for sale where you can win either a brand new iPad or a round of golf with Canberra Raiders Legend Josh Papalii.
All proceeds from the day will go towards the school's sensory playground and community garden.
On Friday 20 May (Friday, Week 4), next Friday, students and families are invited to participate in the National Walk Safely to School Day. This year’s National Walk Safely to School Day is going to be a very special one for a number of reasons;
We will be departing from 4 different locations around Evatt, with a halfway point to each one if students want to take a slightly shorter route. Simply choose which departure point suits your family best, and then meet us there!
Teacher’s will be ready and waiting at each of the 4 locations prior to the departure time.
We will finish our walk at ‘The Nest’ at around 8.45am where fresh fruit will be available for the community. Parents can grab a coffee from James who will be making hot drinks at this time.
This event encourages parents and carers to walk to school regularly with their children if possible. It also supports children to develop vital road crossing skills whilst in the company of an adult.
Attached to this email is a map of the surrounding locations of Evatt Primary School with departure points and times clearly identified.
At Evatt Primary School, we are committed to making this a great morning for our community and hope many parents, carers and students can join us.
Thank you for your support and participation in this great community event.
