EXECUTIVE NEWS

World Teachers Day

Today we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. We are so fortunate at Evatt Primary School to have a wonderful team of staff including our outstanding teachers that do an amazing job helping our students to ‘spread their wings’ each and every day. I personally would like to thank our teachers for their ongoing hard work and going above and beyond for our school community. Your dedication and commitment to our students and families is truly amazing.

Thank you to our P&C who have shared some lovely words and treats for our staff today.

Future of Education Summit

Last Friday, Evatt Primary School was invited as one of only a handful of schools to have students and leadership attend the ACT Future of Education Summit. Our school was proudly represented by Virginia, Rico and Matthew along with Jamal See and myself.

The day consisted of a number of inspirational speakers and workshops to identify key priorities for the next five years in public education. Our students shared some innovative and creative ideas that they would like to see come to life. These were presented to key stakeholders including Yvette Berry, Minister for Education ACT and Katy Haire, Director General ACT Education.

Well done team!

Environmental Upgrades

No doubt you have seen some of the environmental upgrades that are happening around our school. We are very excited about how these are coming along and there are more upgrades planned towards the end of this year and into next. These upgrades continue to enrich the school and provide great spaces for our students to learn and staff to work in.

Thank you to Jamal See and Rebecca Swiridziuk for all of their relentless hard work in ensuring these upgrades come to life at our school.

Imagination Library

This morning Evatt Primary was asked to present at the public launch of Imagination Library in the ACT. Evatt Primary is proud to be the first ever organisation to launch Imagination Library within the ACT, and currently has 164 registered children under the age of 5 receiving a free age appropriate book every single month directly to their door.

It was great to share the amazing things happening at Evatt Primary School through our Family Connect approach. The event was attended by Minister for Education Yvette Berry who was very complimentary of our initiatives.  Currently we have 243 families within the Evatt/McKellar area registered with Family Connect.

Congratulations Rebecca

A huge congratulations to our amazing Business Manager Rebecca Swiridziuk who is a Finalist for the ACT Public Education Awards that will be held tonight. Rebecca works tirelessly with all our staff, families, community partners, contractors and external stakeholders in a highly professional and supportive manner. We wish Rebecca the very best at the awards ceremony tonight.

A Great Start to Learning Everyday

A reminder about the importance of having your children at school for morning lines everyday. This is where we share important messages about the day and what's coming up later in the week. Straight after this, students head into their classrooms and start learning immediately with their teacher. If your child is 15 mins late each day that adds up to over 8 days of missed learning over the course of a year!

Students not returning in 2024

If your child or children are moving on from Evatt Primary School for 2024 could you please let the school know. This will help us with our planning for next year. Obviously students in year 6 are excluded from this.

Parent/Carer Requests 2024

Our wonderful Evatt teachers will soon start to prepare class groupings for 2024. If you would like to share something to be considered in relation to your child and their placement in a class, could you please send this to michael.hatswell@ed.act.edu.au

Hats On

Our whole school day is generally within the hours that sun protection is recommended for UV safety.

Please make sure your child has a sun safe hat with their name on their hat.

Transport Canberra Announcement

Transport Canberra bus timetable changes commencing 9 October 2023

Transport Canberra has announced today that a new bus timetable will be implemented from Monday 9 October to align with the start of the school Term 4.

The timetable features more frequent weekday bus services, most of which will run at least every 30 minutes throughout the day.

A return to 30 minute daytime frequencies will ensure improved off-peak services can be provided between 9.30am and 3.30pm, while maintaining reliability. The increased frequency has resulted in changes to the first and last service times for some bus routes.

Some refinements have also been made to 14 school services based on school and community feedback, and to align with updated school bell times.

The new timetable does not include changes to weekend bus services and there are no changes to light rail frequency.
