A big welcome back to term 4. We hope that our students and families managed some quality time together over the break. We have enjoyed hearing the stories from our students over the past few days about the holiday adventures and we look forward to a great term of learning ahead.
A reminder that The Nest is open from 8.30am every morning. We love seeing families spending quality time together and it's a nice opportunity for our parents and carers to have a coffee or hot drink to start the day. All welcome!
A reminder that the Education Directorate has scheduled 2 x pupil free days this term. The dates for these are Friday 28 October and Monday 28 November. We kindly ask that you please make arrangements for your shield(ren) to stay at home on these days. If they do need to come to school, could you please register them using this form.
Today was the first official day of our whole school's "Friday Focus" writing session. Last term we shared the Writing Framework the school has been building where students have individualised skills to focus on in their writing. These are organised under four main headings: Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling & Handwriting/keyboarding.
During Friday Focus Writing, students work on an open-ended writing task where they aim to apply and demonstrate their individual writing foci. It was great seeing the students take ownership of their learning, identify their next steps, and create fantastic pieces of writing.

If your child or children are moving on from Evatt Primary School for 2023 could you please let the school know. This will help us with our planning for next year. Obviously students in year 6 are excluded from this.
Our wonderful Evatt teachers will soon start to prepare class groupings for 2023. If you would like to share something to be considered in relation to your child and their placement in a class, could you please send this to michael.hatswell@ed.act.edu.au
We have had some changes to COVID restriction in schools. Staff and students in ACT schools are no longer required to wear masks, but can choose to do so if they want. We also still have Rapid Antigen Testing kits available for families this term. You can request them at the front office if you need them. Schools will no longer send out notifications to parents and carers regarding positive cases at school. Visitors, staff and students must still notify the school if they have been in attendance while infectious. The school will record positive cases to identify possible clusters. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need more information.
Welcome to Term 4. I hope most families got to enjoy a bit of a break and are ready for all that this term brings. I had the joy of attending a Wellbeing in Education Conference over the holidays and heard from many speakers about the latest in many Positive Psychology and Positive Education initiatives.
One of the speakers was Dr. Kristy Goodwin who spoke on the very relevant topic of digital wellbeing. Dr. Goodwin has a blog on many topics, including ‘how to wean the screen’, ‘simple solutions to stop digital fatigue’, and ‘setting digital boundaries’. You can read more here: https://drkristygoodwin.com/blog-parents/
As with many of our parent and family resources, you can find more great ideas by following Dr. Goodwin on Facebook or Instagram.
