King's Birthday public holiday - no school - Mon. 9 June
Congratulations to all our students and staff on a fantastic Athletics Carnival today! It was a wonderful day with everyone trying their best and having a go.
A big thank you to our Evatt community for joining us at the Charnwood Ovals to cheer on our students—your support made the day even more special.
We’d also like to wish the very best of luck to the students who will be representing Evatt at the upcoming Belconnen District Athletics Carnival.
Special thanks to our parent helpers for volunteering their time, and to the outstanding students from Melba Copland Secondary School for their valuable support throughout the event.
Breaktimes at Evatt Primary School are full of energy, fun, and opportunities for every student. Alongside free play with friends in our outdoor spaces and playgrounds, students can choose to take part in a variety of structured and engaging activities. We set high expectations for our students during class time, so it’s important they have enjoyable and meaningful breaks to relax, recharge, and reset. These moments help reduce cognitive load and support overall wellbeing. Why not ask your child how they like to spend their break times? Below are just a few of the fantastic options on offer throughout the week.
Soccer’s a big deal at Evatt—and it’s not just a kick-about. It’s carefully set up across Years 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6, with staff running structured teams and giving clear instructions and expectations. The goal is for every student to have a fair, fun experience—whether they’re a future Matilda or Socceroo or just getting the hang of the game.
Active Play offers a range of high energy cooperative games run by a staff member that students of any age can play. This runs for the second half of Break One everyday. It changes throughout the week (check out the poster!) and might include anything from team based games to dance parties. It’s active, it’s varied, and most importantly—it’s heaps of fun.
Structured tips gives students of all year levels a chance to run around, and burn off some energy in a fun and structured way. It’s simple, but always popular. This runs at Break Two everyday on the multi.
Once a week, our budding bikers get to ride together at Bike Club. We run a Yrs K/1/2 group and a Yrs 3/4/5/6 group on alternating weeks. It’s a great way for students to build confidence and new skills on their bikes and utilise our great bike facilities here at EPS. Thanks again to our wonderful parent volunteer bike coaches who run this with Mr Hatswell each week. If your child is not signed up for the bike club and you'd like them to, please fill in a form from the front office. They will need to be a confident rider.
Not every child wants to be out running around at break time, and we get that. Our library is open and buzzing (quietly!) with different options. Students can engage with:
Chess
Puzzles
Lego
Colouring in
Trains
Board games
Uno
Activities based on the library weekly display
and of course, reading!
All of these activities are also available in our fantastic library courtyard.
Each day, our school leaders run a sports equipment borrowing system, giving all students the opportunity to get active and play together using a range of sports gear.
This system encourages shared play, promotes responsibility, and means students don’t need to bring equipment from home.
Aside from our structured activities, students are of course free to choose a range of self guided activities at break times.
As we shared through our parent portal and our school Facebook page, a big reminder about our Thursday afternoon Family Connect program for Term 2 featuring Flag Football — the newest Olympic sport!
We’d love for as many students as possible to join in, along with a parent or carer, for this fun 4-week program. Every child who attends all four sessions will receive a free football!
