Week 4:
CEIS - Fri. 28 Feb.
Week 6:
Canberra Day Public Holiday - Mon. 10 Mar.
A big thank you to our wonderful Evatt Primary School community for your support of our ‘Welcome Community BBQ’ last Wednesday afternoon. It was great to see so many families come along for a sausage, a play and a chat. Thank you to our parents and carers for making the time to connect with our teachers for the beginning of the year getting to know you interviews.
A reminder about some important expectations here at Evatt Primary School to help keep us safe during break times. These are;
‘Hats on’ when outside. All students are required to wear a hat when outside during the designated ‘hats on’ months. If students don't have a hat, they will be required to head to the library for play breaks. They will have the option to attend Active Play which is on our covered multi court out of the sun. Students are also encouraged to wear sunscreen which is available in their classrooms. If you need support in providing a hat for your child, please reach out to our front office team.
‘Safe Pass’ to be inside. During break times we want our students playing, socialising and having fun outside or in our designated play break areas. If a student needs to come into the school building, we ask them to speak to an adult on duty and obtain a ‘safe pass’.
We appreciate any parent/carer discussions with your child at home to reinforce these important safety measures.
A reminder that Boost reading notes are being sent home today. BOOST Reading is a web-based program that provides personalised reading support and the school covers the cost for your child to access this. This program helps to reinforce and develop reading skills and we recommend where possible, students engage with the BOOST Reading program for 30-45 minutes per week in short sessions of 10-15 minutes. Please note that we will not start this program until later in the year for our Kindergarten students.
NAPLAN testing will occur in our school between 12 and 24 March 2025 for students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are engaging for students. The tests are tailored (or adaptive), which means that each test presents questions that may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses. This helps students remain engaged with the assessment.
Tailored testing allows a wider range of student abilities to be assessed and measures student achievement more precisely. A student’s overall NAPLAN result is based on both the number and complexity of questions they answer correctly. Your child should not be concerned if they find questions challenging; they may be taking a more complex test pathway.
All Year 3 students will complete the writing assessment on paper.
NAPLAN provides valuable information to schools and parents about literacy and numeracy achievement. It supports school improvement processes by enabling teachers to monitor student progress over time and to identify areas of strength and development.
All eligible students are encouraged and supported to participate in NAPLAN testing. Visit www.nap.edu.au to see interactive versions of the test and for more information.
Our lunch time bike club will be up and running soon for 2025. We will be running Bike Club for students at B1 each Thursday starting in Week 5 (06/03/2025).
This will be for students who are already confident riders. Unfortunately at this time, it won't be for teaching students who currently can't ride a bike. We may look to support this later in 2025. Students who are confident riders will be encouraged to bring their bike to school to join in.
Duane Toohey and Veronica Fortune, community members and bike coach, have again kindly agreed to oversee our bike club program for 2025. We are also inviting parents and carers to come along to Bike Club on Thursday if you have time. If you would like to come along please email michael.hatswell@ed.act.edu.au.
Keep an eye out for permission notes if your child will be interested that will be sent home today.
Last year we were very fortunate to run GAME ON Thursday afternoons for 5 x weeks. We are excited to have the program back for 2025. The program is free and will run on our Multi, Thursday afternoons weeks 6 - 10 starting Thursday 13 March. This is for children and their parents/families. If you are keen to join in please register below using the link. https://forms.gle/XKhSdWfJjTTvdvj39
The school will be transitioning out our use of Seesaw as a communication platform. We will in place be using the ACT Education Parent Portal as our main method of communicating with families. We ask all families if they haven’t done so yet to register for the parent portal, and download the dedicated App which makes use of the system far easier.
You can now access Parent Portal with the Sentral for Parents app. Download Sentral for Parents for free through the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
Parent Portal is a secure online platform used to share student information between you and your child’s teachers.
If you haven’t registered for Parent Portal yet, use this Parent Portal access link to log into or create your ACT Digital Account. To access Parent Portal, you will need your access key, you should have received this by email when we launched.
