You will have received your child's Semester 1 report earlier this week via email and we are excited to have started our Future Focused Interviews this week. This is a new process for Evatt, and we hope it will become a really valuable process for teachers and families. Learning Focus Interviews are an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss ‘where to next' as we move into the second half of the year
As communicated in our newsletters previously, Semester 1 reports do not contain comments. For more information on this, and the consultation process in reaching this decision, please refer to previous editions of our newsletter:
Learning Focus Interviews will be framed around our Learning Focus Plans that will be developed collaboratively at the session.
This plan will set learning focuses for:
Literacy
Numeracy
Every Day @ Evatt (which may include social, personal or work habits)
If you are unable to attend the session, the teacher will work collaboratively with your child to develop the plan and share via Seesaw.
You might have seen our brand new community hub, The Nest, featured extremely positively in the media over the last week, both in print and on TV. At Evatt we are really focussing on fostering a sense of community between the school and our families, and we are really proud that this is being acknowledged widely. The other day, we even received a phone call from a grandmother from Queensland who had seen one of the articles online and wanted to share her positive feedback about our initiatives, and how excited she was for us as a school.
Since opening the Nest this term, we’ve already facilitated the following:
Workshops for supporting their child's reading at home
Accessing and navigating the NDIS workshop
A daily reading cafe for families
Safe Online Together workshop for families
Weekly Giggle & Wiggle by ACT Libraries
You can see some of the great articles below:
Jo Davies, our School Business Manager has recently made the decision to retire. Jo has worked at Evatt Primary School for 14 plus years and in this time oversaw a huge amount of environmental and resourcing upgrades that benefited the school and community.
Jo has seen and supported thousands of families through the school and this corporate knowledge will be missed. We thank Jo for all her work and wish her the very best in retirement.
A reminder that our school photos are on Monday, with an extra session on Wednesday for the end of week preschool groups.
All students are encouraged to wear school uniform.
We are excited to announce that Evatt Primary School has officially adopted two beautiful wedge tail eagles, Spirit & Aquila. The eagle has long been the emblem of Evatt Primary School and it is fantastic to have this real world connection for our community. These eagles live at the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park in Victoria. The sanctuary has partnered with the school to provide this wonderful opportunity and has made a video for our students introducing the eagles and sharing their stories. The adoption is in celebration of our students earning 10,000 feathers as a school for being safe, respectful learners. Moonlit Sanctuary will continue to update the school on the eagles over the coming years, and we look forward to continuing this powerful community partnership.
Here is the video produced by the Sanctuary especially for Evatt students:
Evatt will be facilitating the optional ICAS assessments during Term 3 (official test window is between 9th of August – 3rd of September). More details about ICAS assessments can be found at : https://www.icasassessments.com/
There is a cost associated with each test and there is no expectation for parents to enrol their child in these assessments. The assessments will occur during class time. Parents/carers are asked to register their child through the link below.
Please note the school is currently reviewing the future of the assessments at Evatt Primary School and most likely will not continue in future years.

Congratulations to the four students, Abbey, Lily, Alana, and Zac, who competed in the ACT Regional Cross Country. We are so proud to have Evatt students represent our school at this state level competition.
As we approach the school holidays at the end of next week, it's timely to have a conversation with your children about safe choices at home and in the community. We know that our students like getting out and about which is fantastic plus they may be spending time online at home or at friends places. If you need some tips or strategies for this, please get in touch with our youth worker James Keeley through the front office.
A big thank you to our school P&C for running last night's school disco. It was great to see so many students attend with the word being it was the busiest disco in years! It was lovely to see parents enjoying a coffee and snack in The Nest.
