Term 2, Week 1: Student Free Day - Mon. 28 April
This week, I’ve been lucky to have met so many of your beautiful children. It is always interesting to come to a new setting and see learning in action. Obviously I can’t tell you all the things I’ve been impressed with this week, but I would like to share three highlights of my week, and congratulate parents, staff and students on creating a welcoming, engaging and high quality learning space.
The students and teachers have high expectations in all they do. This is evident across all classes.
Quality routines and processes are well embedded at Evatt Primary School and this allows students to put their cognitive energy into learning.
Everyone wants the best for students. Classroom teachers have strong, respectful relationships with students and are scaffolding learning. Support staff show initiative and step in to help in a professional and timely fashion. The executive team is available and supportive and leads with purpose.
It has been a pleasure to be here this week. Thank you all for having me.
It has been fantastic to see so many students and families coming together for ‘Game On’ each Thursday afternoon over the past four weeks! From frisbee and movement circuits to soccer and biking, our families have had an absolute blast. Plus, our students have especially loo loo loo the exciting giveaways at the end of each session!
If you haven’t joined in yet, there’s still time—don’t miss hi our final Game On session next Thursday at 3:15 p.m., featuring Oztag!
Stay tuned for more fun-filled family programs running on Thursday afternoons next term and throughout the year!

To promote consistency across our school, from Term 2, all staff will be referred to using an honorific. This will apply to Teachers, Front Office Staff, Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), and the Building Services Officer (BSO). Preschool will remain on a first name basis.
We will support students in adjusting to this change from the beginning of Term 2 and encourage families to reinforce this practice at home.
Below is a list of staff titles for reference.
Thank you for your support in fostering a respectful and consistent learning environment.
A reminder that the first Monday of next term (Monday 29 April) will be a pupil free day. We look forward to seeing everyone back for a wonderful term of learning on Tuesday 30 April.

Enjoy some bike riding fun with Bike Club! Every Thursday there is a small event called Bike Club that is run by our supportive Principal Mr Hatswell.
Last week our lucky year sixes all got some Ministerial or committee badges. They have all been given opportunities to earn these very responsible roles and will be working across the school to advocate for the students across the school.
Our year 5/6 went to B-Firm for a day camp last Friday. They went on a series of challenging military style boot camp obstacles and had a fun, exciting and very muddy experience.
On Thursday 3 April 22 year 5/6 students represented Evatt Primary at the ACT School Futsal Titles. We had 3 teams playing with one team narrowly missing the quarter finals. It was a great day for all. Thank you to the teachers and parents who came along to support them. Our 3/4 teams will be playing on Monday.
Don't miss it! We are having our annual Cross Country this term week 10 on Friday. All the different houses will compete in races based on their year group.

All Evatt students from P-6 are participating in the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. The students are challenged to read 30 books before September 12. They are adding books to their record sheet every week during their library lessons.
Books they read at home are also eligible to be counted. Students are encouraged to keep track of any books they read fully and add those titles to their records at their next library lesson. I have no doubt that the students will all complete this challenge and earn the right to choose the books that are added to the library as the reward.
Happy Reading everyone!
