Everyone at Evatt Primary has had a wonderful day celebrating Japanese Day today. The students have participated in a wide range of activities including blossom craft, flag fan making, origami, Pikachu-throwing and a range of wonderful performances.
As always the sushi lunch was a big hit!
A huge thank you to Quayle Sensei for her coordination of our fabulous day. Also a shout out to Ash and April in the canteen who supported us with our Sushi lunch.
Last week Evatt Primary School underwent the School Review process. This is where an external panel came into our school to review the school's progress against the National School Improvement Tool criteria. We are very pleased with how we went during this process and the panel shared some fantastic commendations regarding the school's progress. One of these was as follows;
Evatt Primary School is commended for the positive school culture characterised by warm, respectful and inclusive relationships. The leadership team, teachers, LSAs, Preschool assistants, administration staff and students express a happy, optimistic feel to the school. They feel valued and supported, professionally and personally. The leadership team members are appreciated for their approachability, openness, warmth and the respect they demonstrate to staff, students and families.
We will unpack more of our school review report at our next P&C meeting.
Well done to our 3/4 team who participated at the NRL gala day on Tuesday. They played with great spirit and sportspersonship and represented our school proudly. It was great to see lots of parents and carers come along and cheer loudly.
Thank you James Keeley and Kelly Holden for coaching our team on the day.
Thank you to our P&C and the parent volunteers who ran our Fathers Day stall during the week. Our students enjoyed picking out some gifts for their dads or special people in their lives.
A reminder that the P&C School Disco is on Wednesday 14 September. Our school discos are always great fun so keep an eye out for the information about this.
Pupil Free DayA reminder that next Friday 9 September is a pupil free day. We ask that students stay at home on this day. If your child does need to attend school, please fill out the form that has been sent out.

Dr. Siggie has some great tips on how to ask children about their school day. Instead of “How was school today?”, which is often answered with “I don’t know” or “Fine”, Dr. Siggie suggests the following bank of inquiries:
“During lunchtime, who did you sit next to?”
“Did your teacher say anything funny today?”
“Did somebody need your help today?”
“What book did you read today?”
“Are there any new words you heard/learnt today?”
“Did anything make you laugh today?”
“What are 3 things you are thankful for today?”
“What was your highlight/lowlight for the day?”
“Did anything make you sad today?”
As Dr. Siggie explains, we want to move away from questions that are too big or too general for children to respond to, especially after a long day full of effort. And we don’t want to ask all these questions at once – save them and ask one or two at a time. You might want to wait until dinnertime some days, rather than straight after school. Have a conversation – share some fun things about your day.
Follow Dr. Siggie on Facebook or Instagram for more parenting ideas, remembering that all families are different and not all tips may suit you.
Other things that might be of interest include: questions to ask kids about their day, Maggie Dent, “queen of common sense”: https://www.maggiedent.com/ & Mona Delahooke https://monadelahooke.com/ who shares loads of information on Challenging Behaviour – Using our hearts and minds to navigate ‘difficult moments’ with kids.
