EXECUTIVE NEWS

Congratulations

We are very excited to have received ‘Outstanding Partnership of the Year’ at the ACT Public Education Awards which was held last Friday. Evatt Primary won this award in partnership with Cyclabilities.

Evatt has been working with Cyclabilities over the past two years providing amazing opportunities for our students and the greater community.

A big congratulations to a number of Evatt staff who were also nominated for these awards.

These were;

  • Karen Owens – Primary Teacher of the Year

  • Georgia Davies – Education Support Person of the Year

  • Kellie Kingston - Primary Teacher of the Year

Evatt Primary School also shone brightly throughout the awards with strong links to award winners Joanne Stratton, Kelly Pulver and Rebecca Smith.

These nominations and award recipients are great recognition of the outstanding work that happens at Evatt each and everyday.

Well done and Congratulations.

New School Logo

We are excited to finally launch our new school logo!

Earlier this year we facilitated some community consultation on a potential Evatt logo refresh. We had great input from staff, students, and the community.

The logo still includes the famous Evatt Wedgetail-Eagle emblem as well as the symbol for a nest in the background to show our commitment to creating community partnerships and an inclusive school environment.

While we have launched the logo, the transition will be gradual and there is no need to replace existing uniforms. The school is currently investigating a more sustainable approach to getting the new look on older uniforms - stay tuned for more information on this.

New uniforms with the updated logo will be available early in 2022.

Classes and Teachers for 2022

Our teachers have been busily working on class groupings for 2022. Our team put a lot of time into this to set our students up well for the following year.

We will be sharing information to parents, carers and students in week 11 about class teachers for 2022. This will be done through SeeSaw.

Because of the current safety measures in schools we won't be doing a Move Up day this year.

Thank You Evatt Primary School Board

Finally a big thank you to the Evatt Primary School Board for their guidance, governance and support this year. We have progressed our school improvement agenda throughout this year and look forward to continuing this next year.

Thank you to our parent reps; Kimberly Ingram, Neill Taylor and Warren Neilson; our community rep Michelle Armstrong and our teacher reps Sarah Veitch and Deb Bultitude.

Thank you to Rebecca Swiridziuk and Jamal See for their outstanding support also during school board this year.

COMMUNITY CONSULATION

The Evatt all abilities bike precinct

Evatt Primary School is currently in the process of working with our community partner, cyclabilities to explore the idea of establishing the Evatt All Abilities Bike Precinct through a potential joint grant funding application.

The project will transform a large relatively unused open area into a key recreation asset for the local community. The project will link the school to the community and provide a range of new biking facilities with the aim to create a fun, safe and inclusive venue for riders of all skill levels and all abilities to engage in bike riding.

The bike precinct design connects the Evatt school community hub through an ‘open the gates’ initiative with the local community providing inclusive, safe and structured avenues for skill progression, from beginners through to advanced riders. The precinct is designed and tailored to maximise inclusive recreational cycling opportunities and to boost physical and social participation across all levels of ability. Please note that paths or resources built within the school fence line would not be accessible during school hours.

Original concepts and ideas include:

  • Modular skills track within the school grounds. This is designed for all wheels including bikes, skateboards, scooters or even roller skates! (blue)

  • Dirt pump track outside of the school fence line (pink)

  • Adaptive skills trail outside of the school fence line (yellow)

  • Early skills path within the school fence line (green)
