What an amazing day we have had at Evatt Primary School today! A Japanese Day for the ages. It commenced with a range of wonderful student performances in front of a large audience with many parents and carers attending.
The students had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities including Ohashi races, Dorayaki cooking, fan art and Tama-Ire/Daruma Hakobi. We all enjoyed the sushi lunch and finished the day with an amazing performance by Anne Norman and Toshi Sakamoto who showcased the Taiko Drums and Flutes of Japan.
A huge thank you and well done to Quayle Sensei for coordinating another fantastic Japanese Day.
We are excited that next week is Bookweek at Evatt primary School. Next Friday morning we will hold a book week parade in the morning followed by a fun multi aged activity rotation that our students will participate in. We are aiming to hold our parade outside at the multi just after 9am should the weather be kind. Parents and carers are invited to join us for this at 9.00am.
Congratulations to all the Evatt students who proudly represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival on Wednesday. Everyone competed to the best of their ability with great sportspersonship.
Congratulations to Rico A (shotput and discus) and Michael M (long jump and 100m sprint) who have progressed to the ACT Carnival later this term.
We are hoping you have seen all the correspondence about the upcoming P&C community event ‘Stomp The Grounds’ that will be held on Sunday 17 September (end of Week 9). Make sure you save the date and bring your family along for what will be a wonderful community morning. More information can be found on Seesaw or our school Facebook page.
A reminder to all parents and carers to take a small amount of time and fill out the 2023 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey which will be available online from 18 August to 8 September. The survey results will help us to continue to make quality informed decisions about how to improve our school. No personal identifying information will be provided to any school or college.
You should have received an email with a link to this in your nominated email account. Please notify the school if this has not occurred.
A timely reminder that we now have our hats back on. Even though it's still on the chilly side, we are fast approaching Spring and 1 August is when our UV period increases to a high level. Please make sure your child has a sun safe hat with their name on their hat.

As you may be aware, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases across ACT public schools in recent weeks.
To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:
Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.
Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.
Keep up to date with vaccinations.
Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school. Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.
Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Distance where possible.
For the latest COVID-19 advice please visit the ACT’s COVID-19 website.

The P&C needs your help! We appreciate that people are busy, but without help to run events, we won't be able to continue to run events for the kids. A lot of work goes into organising events and activities behind the scenes. Not everything is done during the day. We need help for the following:
Special lunch days - packaging up meals and serving to the kids
Writing comms on activities for the school community
What's your skillset, I'm sure we can use it!
Without the help of our community, we can’t run activities and events. If you can spare an hour or two, please contact the P&C at evattpspc@gmail.com.

This week’s tools come from MindUP for Parents & Families, available when you register for a free subscription on https://mindup.org/mindup-for-families/
The programs available are designed to give you tools to support positive parenting and the wellbeing of both you and your child. The Mindful Parenting program is led by Goldie Hawn, whose dulcet tones have an immediate calming and soothing effect. There are some amazing parenting programs available in Canberra, which I have shared in previous newsletters. But today many families may find it hard to juggle work and attend these programs.
Online programs like https://brave4you.psy.uq.edu.au/ and the modules available in MindUP give you access to the tools in your own time, in the comfort of your home. There are many things that cause stress in our lives that are out of our control, so you may like to learn about actions you can take to thrive and flourish in the face of these challenges. Dive into the resources if you’d like to:
Learn how your wellbeing impacts your parenting
Understand and manage emotions for you and your children
Explore your connection with your children
Turn learning into action with strategies and resources to build more joy and happiness in your home
You’ll learn key strategies to manage your stress, regulate your emotions and tools to be responsive rather than reactive, to nurture your child’s health and happiness. You’ll also be introduced to Brain Breaks that you can practice at home, just like your child is practicing at school throughout the day. You can also learn more about the activities students participate in to learn about their brain, and how practices such as mindfulness and daily gratitudes support an optimistic outlook and much more.
If you haven’t got time to explore the website, simply follow MindUP on FB or Instagram, for regular updates to support your family finding joy and happiness in everyday moments 😊.
