P&C Disco

Thank you to our P&C for running a fantastic disco last Thursday evening. The numbers of students and families who attended was a record high with the feedback being extremely positive.

It was great to see so many of our students being fabulous movers and groovers and having a wonderful time.

Well done all.

Bike Club

As you are probably aware, the Evatt Primary School bike club runs every Friday for students who have nominated to come along. Bike club operates in 3 x groups under the guidance of our wonderful parent volunteers Duane, Seymour and Anna. This week it was our K/1/2 year levels turn and they had a fabulous time. They have been working on ‘covering our brakes’ and ‘level pedals’ check out the photos below.

If your child is not part of the bike club and would like to join, please fill out a form that is available at the front office. Please note that students must be able to ride to attend.

Again, a huge thanks to our parent volunteers who do a fabulous job each and every week.

Japanese Day

A reminder that Japanese Day is quickly approaching. This is being held Friday 18 August. This is an event that our students always love and Quayle Sensei does an amazing job coordinating it. The students get to participate in a wide range of activities including blossom craft, flag fan making, origami, pikachu throwing and a range of wonderful performances. As always the sushi lunch will be a big hit. Thank you to the P&C for organising this.

Book Week

Week 6 of this term is Book Week. It is always one of the highlights on the events calendar.  Our school dress up day will be Friday 25 August with a parade in the morning and book week activities throughout the day in classrooms. Keep an eye out for more information to come.

Hats On

A timely reminder that we now have our hats back on. Even though it's still on the chilly side, we are fast approaching Spring and 1 August is when our UV period increases to a high level. Please make sure your child has a sun safe hat with their name on their hat.

From our P&C

Volunteers needed!

The Evatt P&C desperately need volunteers. If you can help with fundraising activities or helping with the special lunches, please let us know. You don’t need any particular skills. Roles include buying food and delivering it to the school serving food on lunch days and tiding up afterwards. We also need people for other fundraising activities such as Father’s Day stall, school discos, second-hand uniform stalls and much more.

Without the help of our community, these events cannot go ahead. So if you think you can spare an hour or two here in there, please reach out to the P&C as we are committed to supporting our kids as best we can. Thank you.

If you would like to volunteer or get more information on what is involved, please email Paula Parker at: ianparker21@hotmail.com

Banking:

Please note the P&C bank details have changed. If you have old bank details saved, please delete them. If you need to transfer money to the P&C directly, please contact evattpspc@gmail.com.

How to Handle Tantrums and Meltdowns

This week’s resource comes from the Child Mind Institute, an organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders.

To help a child who is having a meltdown, we need to understand what might be causing the reaction.  Their response might look like fear, anger, frustration, or something else.  Of course, our children don’t respond in the way an adult would, by talking or asking for what they want.  Instead, they may cry, argue, or yell.  If an adult gives in, then children may not learn healthy ways to have their needs met.

Our goal as the supportive adults in their lives is to get children to respond in positive ways when they are experiencing a challenge.  If you can identify the trigger, you can come up with a plan to avoid them.  Is it happening when it’s time to do homework, or time to get ready for bed?  Can you build in more brain or movement breaks during homework time (a little bit like what they experience during their school day), or start an enjoyable, bonding bedtime routine (most children love a bedtime story).  If you want to read more: https://childmind.org/article/how-to-handle-tantrums-and-meltdowns/

If you want some more practical support or are interested in completing a parenting program with other like-minded parents, you might like to drop into the Children’s Behaviour and Emotional Wellbeing Clinic in West Belconnen (6 Luke St) if your child is under 8 years of age, or look into the Bringing Up Great Kids program for children aged 8-12 years.  You can call 6205 2904 to find out more or google their website.

Wishing you many calm and positive moments in your family life 😊.
