EXECUTIVE NEWS
Michael Hatswell

DDG visit

Today we had the ACT Education Directorate, Deputy Director General, Jane Simmons, visit Evatt Primary School. We shared our current priorities, highlighting our strong focus on literacy and numeracy prior to a walk around the school. When Jane visited our classrooms, she observed our students during their writing lessons. She specifically commented on the high levels of student engagement as well as the consistency across the school in the delivery of how we teach writing to our students.

We are very proud of our school and always enjoy showcasing it to others.

Cluster Schools meeting

During the week, I attended a cluster schools meeting at Melba Copland Secondary School. Here we discussed a range of initiatives that can strengthen the learning pathway for our students between primary and secondary school and then eventually into college.

I was very energised about the vision that Jennifer Howard, Executive Principal MCSS, has for the school. It was exciting to hear about the new initiatives the school has in place that encompasses a strong focus on teaching and learning. We will look to invite Jennifer to Evatt PS early next term to share this vision with our families.

Reminders for students

As you may be aware, we have recently been working with our students on some important expectations here at Evatt Primary School to help keep us safe. These have been;

‘Hats on’ when outside. All students are required to wear a sun smart hat when outside during the designated ‘hats on’ months. If students don't have a hat, they will be required to head to the library for play breaks. They will have the option to attend Active Play which is on our covered multi purpose court out of the sun. Students are also encouraged to wear sunscreen which is available in their classrooms. If you need support in providing a hat for your child, please reach out to our front office team.

‘Safe Pass’ to be inside. During break times we want our students playing, socialising and having fun outside or in our designated play break areas. If a student needs to come into the school building, we ask them to speak to an adult on duty and obtain a ‘safe pass’.

We appreciate any parent/carer discussions with your child at home to reinforce these important safety measures.

P&C Annual Meeting

We strongly encourage parents and carers to attend the upcoming Evatt Primary School P&C AGM. We value a strong collaborative partnership with our P&C and encourage families to get involved.

P&C Disco

Our P&C will be running the first disco for 2024 on Thursday 14 March. Parents/carers are encouraged to volunteer if you can help out before or on the night. If you can, please fill out the QR code attached in the flyer. Snacks will be available at the disco and students will need  to bring cash if they wish to purchase a food item.

Voluntary Contributions

All ACT Government Schools ask families for the payment of voluntary contributions. These funds are extremely valuable for ensuring that the school can provide an enhanced learning experience for all students. We will continue to prioritise our voluntary contributions to a new PA system for our school hall.

As we did last year in consultation with our School Board,  we are not going to put an expected dollar amount on the voluntary contributions.

Previously the contribution was $120 for one child, $220 for two children or $290 for three or more children.

If you nominate your voluntary contribution to the library fund this amount is tax deductible.

Payments can be made by cash, Eftpos at the Front Office, or by Direct Deposit.
