AFL Clinics

Last week the GWS Giants came to Evatt to run some fun activities and talk with our students. This was during break time so it was an opt in activity for students which proved to be very popular. A big thank you to the Giants for giving up their time and sending a few AFL stars to our school.

DDG Visit

Today we had the ACT Education Directorate, Deputy Director General, Deb Efthymiades, visit Evatt Primary School. Earlier this year she made contact with the school to find a time to come and see all the great things that are happening. Deb was particularly impressed with the great Writers' Workshop lessons that were occurring during the visit. Deb complimented the school on its wonderful school community, great students, teachers and support staff.

We are very proud of our school and always love showcasing it to others.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing will occur in our school between 15 and 27 March 2023.

Education ministers agreed that NAPLAN would move to Term One from 2023. This will mean results will be available to education authorities earlier in the year to inform school and system teaching and learning programs and will assist teachers to better determine support students need for the coming year.

NAPLAN Online is a more engaging assessment that adjusts questions to each student’s achievement level.

NAPLAN provides valuable information to schools and parents about literacy and numeracy achievement. It supports school improvement processes by enabling teachers to monitor student progress over time and to identify areas of strength and development.

All eligible students are encouraged and supported to participate in NAPLAN testing. Visit www.nap.edu.au to see interactive versions of the test and for more information.

Lunch Time Bike Club

With the fabulous recent addition of the Dirt Bike Track on our Evatt top oval, we will be running a bike club for students at B1 each Friday starting next week (Week 6)

There has been significant interest across the school with many students returning the permission note. As a result, each week we will have different groups of students who will be able to participate. The groupings will be communicated next week to students.

Students who are confident riders will be encouraged to bring their bike to school to join in. Thank you to a number of our parents who have agreed to join our students for a few laps.

If you are a parent or carer who would like to come along please email michael.hatswell@ed.act.edu.au

Waste Free Wednesday

Well done to so many students (and thank you families for support at home) for another great waste free Wednesday this week. The momentum is growing each term and we thank you for your commitment to helping reduce waste here at school. We will hold our raffle early next week for students who received a ticket from participating in Waste Free Wednesday.

Hats, Sunscreen and Water

With a few days of very hot weather, it's a timely reminder about students having hats and drink bottles with their names on them for school. Students are to wear hats for break times and during class physical education sessions.

A reminder that sunscreen is available for students to apply when needed throughout the day. Also, don't forget to encourage your children to drink plenty of water.

Student Learning Resources (previously known as bookpacks)

During the school holidays we have sourced all of the stationary, supplies and resources required to support your child's learning for 2023. With a goal of keeping costs to a minimum + saving parents and carers time sourcing themselves, we have purchased the supplies in bulk and will provide them to the students as required throughout the year. We have ensured the purchase of high quality resources. Some of these supplies include: workbooks, pencils, pens, textas, glue sticks, scissors, rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, scissors, tissues + a large amount of specific resources required for Art, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Sustainability and Literacy.

We encourage all parents/carers to pay for the learning resource requirements for their child(ren). An amount of $70 per student will cover these costs for the year.

Voluntary Contributions

All ACT Government Schools ask families for the payment of voluntary contributions. These funds are extremely valuable for ensuring that the school can provide an enhanced learning experience for all students. We will continue to prioritise our voluntary contributions to a new PA system for our school hall.

As we did last year in consultation with our School Board,  we are not going to put an expected dollar amount on the voluntary contributions.

Previously the contribution was $120 for one child, $220 for two children or $290 for three or more children.

If you nominate your voluntary contribution to the library fund this amount is tax deductible.
