Year 3/4 Camp
We have loved hearing the stories about the fabulous time our students in years 3/4 have had a camp earlier this week. Even the cold weather did not stop them from having a fabulous time. I'm sure there have been many campers who returned with wonderful stories that they will remember forever. No doubt some students have been going to bed early the last few nights!
A big thank you to our staff who have worked around the clock to make this wonderful experience possible for our students.
District Cross Country
Well done to all the students who represented our school so very proudly at the district cross country yesterday. Every student ran their hearts out, but most importantly did this with school spirit and great sportspersonship. Thank you to Ben Sterland for the coordination of this and well done Team Evatt.
Waste Free Wednesday
Congratulations to so many students and families who put in the effort to ensure the lunchboxes were waste free on Wednesday. We had a great response with this across the school and we encourage families to continue this to improve our sustainable practices.
Congratulations to these students who were the winners of our Waste Free Wednesday Prizes.

Athletics Carnival Ribbons
It was great to see a huge community turn out this morning for the handing out of our Athletics Carnival Ribbons. Well done to all of these students and good luck for the district carnival early next term.
Walk to School Day
Thank you to everyone who supported walk to school day and to the staff members who organised and assisted on the day.

COVID Smart reminder
As you may be aware, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases across ACT public schools in recent weeks.
To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:
Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.
Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.
Keep up to date with vaccinations.
Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school. Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.
Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Distance where possible.
For the latest COVID-19 advice please visit the ACT’s COVID-19 website.

Stranger awareness safety message
This is a reminder to ensure your children and young people understand the importance of stranger awareness safety and information has been included on how to report an incident.
Please support us to keep our children safe by having conversations about moving safely around the community. You may wish to visit the Australian Federal Police website section on Child Safety for tips. In addition, the Safety4Kids is a non-government website that has useful information and links. The Constable Kenny website also has a number of tips for parents for younger children.
If you become aware of an incident or notice anyone acting suspiciously around a school or student, contact police immediately on 131 444 or in the case of an emergency call 000. If you witness an incident or if you have any information that could assist police, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously. We would also ask that you notify the school so we can also support the wider school community to be aware of incidents.

Volunteers needed!
The Evatt P&C desperately need volunteers. If you can help with fundraising activities or helping with the special lunches, please let us know. You don’t need any particular skills. Roles include buying food and delivering it to the school serving food on lunch days and tiding up afterwards. We also need people for other fundraising activities such as Father’s Day stall, school discos, second-hand uniform stalls and much more.
Without the help of our community, these events cannot go ahead. So if you think you can spare an hour or two here in there, please reach out to the P&C as we are committed to supporting our kids as best we can. Thank you.
If you would like to volunteer or get more information on what is involved, please email Paula Parker at: ianparker21@hotmail.com
Banking:
Please note the P&C bank details have changed. If you have old bank details saved, please delete them. If you need to transfer money to the P&C directly, please contact evattpspc@gmail.com.

Top 4 things parents can do to help kids succeed in school…
If you’d like to know what the latest research says about how you can help your child/children succeed in school, you might be interested in this short clip and extra resources: https://peopleforeducation.ca/topics/parent-involvement/
Research shows that making learning fun can have the best results.
Believe in their potential and tell them often – but make it about them and highlight their individual strengths, rather than something vague and generic.
Talk about school – this has a greater impact on academic achievement than monitoring homework, being at home after school for your kids, or limiting the time they are allowed to watch TV. By Year 6, only 38% of children are reporting that they talk to a parent or caregiver about school activities almost every day.
Influence their attitudes, their sense of personal competence, and their work habits. Praise them for their efforts and persistence. Talk about something you’ve enjoyed learning about recently and share that learning is important at all ages.
Read together (in any language) and teach them to love reading by making it fun, rather than like a chore.
Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect parent! It can be tough at times, but you’re doing the best job you know how to do. We teach our kids that we love them just as they are – it’s a great idea to model self-acceptance too 😊.
