Week Nine
Y5 Combined Band- Thu. 19 Sep.
We were very fortunate to have five students represent our school at the 2024 Minister’s Student Congress. The Minister’s Student Congress provided an opportunity for ACT public school students to come together to discuss issues which matter to them and affect their education.
This year’s Congress focused on subjects like:
Artificial Intelligence
Mental Health Supports
Strengthening School and Community Connections.
We look forward to seeing where all the wonderful ideas and feedback head.
A reminder to all parents and carers to take a small amount of time and fill out the 2024 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey which has been emailed to you. The survey results will help us to continue to make quality informed decisions about how to improve our school. No personal identifying information will be provided to any school or college.
We have had a fabulous couple of weeks at Evatt Primary School celebrating Book Week and our Book Fair.
Last week, it was wonderful to see so many families purchasing books from our Book Fair stall. Books are always great additions to family homes and it also helps us raise valuable funds for the school.
Thank you to our P&C for running our Fathers Day stall last week. The students enjoyed picking a gift that I'm sure was well received by their dad or special person last Sunday. Happy Fathers Day to our dads for last Sunday!
Congratulations to Khalani, Lina, Stefan and Kai who will be competing at the upcoming ACT Athletics Carnival.
We wish them all the best.
Thank you to all the families who have come to Game On in the last two weeks. What a great turnout!
This program runs on Thursdays 3:15-4:15.
We are hoping you have seen the information about the upcoming P&C community event ‘Stomp The Grounds’ that will be held on Sunday 22 September (end of Week 9). This was a huge success last year so make sure you save the date and bring your family along for what will be a wonderful community morning.
Sponsorship envelopes are being sent home today!

It's great to see nearly all students with hats for playtime & PE. Please make sure your child has a sun safe hat with their name on their hat.
Last week, Evatt held a book fair in the library. There was stationary, diaries and many, many books. First, we would like to thank Ms Bultitude for giving us the opportunity to have this. Because of her, we now have some new additions to the library. Second, we’d like to thank all of the parents who supported the book fair by making a purchase.
Last Sunday was Fathers Day. We hope you all had a very good day. The P&C came to Evatt and held a Fathers Day stall.
The Evatt students have been working towards their class and end of term rewards. The rewards they now have are ice blocks (end of the year) and a class reward which took place this Friday. All students have been safe, kind and focused. They have earnt it. Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you on Monday, ready for week 8.

As part of the Strong Foundations reform program, ACT public schools will begin a phased introduction of the Year 1 Phonics Check starting with 26 schools this term.
The Phonics Check is a quick and easy way for teachers to gauge the phonics knowledge of Year 1 students. It is designed to help teachers identify students who may need more help learning to read.
The first schools selected to participate were chosen based on demographic, location and size to provide a broad sample from across the ACT public school system. Insights from this first group of schools will inform a rollout of the Year 1 Phonics Check to our school and all ACT public schools in 2025.
This is an important milestone as part of the Strong Foundations program designed to strengthen literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students. You can read more on the Education Directorate website.
Enrolments for the 2025 school year are now open for students starting at a new school. Visit www.education.act.gov.au for the online application link and information about the school in your child’s Priority Enrolment Area. Apply by 7 June to receive an offer from 29 July 2024.
From 2024, there will be 4 student-free days for ACT public schools. These are the first day of each school term:
Term 1, Monday 29 January 2024
Term 2, Monday 29 April 2024
Term 3, Monday 22 July 2024
Term 4, Monday 14 October 2024.
We use student-free days for staff development, enabling us to plan in a student-free environment. Student-free planning days have been expanded from 1 to 4 days from 2024 as part of our new Teaching Staff Enterprise Agreement which prioritises better teacher workloads for educational leadership, teaching and learning.
