Tree Plotter Project

Evatt Primary School has been very fortunate to be invited as the first primary school in the world to be part of the Tree Plotter project. This is where trees can be plotted on an interactive app that can be accessed all over the world so people can look at the location of different types of trees and how they change over time.

To celebrate this event, our Year 6 Ministers for the Environment were joined by members of ACT Government and the Director of Treenet for a special planting event at our arboretum. The three species of trees that were planted were the Cercis canadensis (Eastern Redbud), Parrotia persica (Persian Ironwood) and Ginkgo biloba (Maidenhair tree). The key information about these trees and the planting will be uploaded to the app which we will be able to share access with our school community soon.

Athletics Carnival

The weather gods shone brightly on us today as we had a beautiful sunny day for our athletics carnival. It was very evident that our students had a fantastic time and very much enjoyed the day. A big thank you to Ben Sterland for his organisation of the carnival and special mention to all our parent volunteers who helped out. We could not have run the day without their support.

P&C Mothers Day Stall

A big thank you to our fantastic P&C for running the annual Mothers Day stall this week. I'm sure there will be lots of happy mums or special people come Sunday morning when they receive their gifts. That's if they haven't received them already!

Thank you to the P&C and many parent volunteers who made this possible.

Unwell Children

We have seen a range of differing reasons for children being unwell over the past few weeks. A big reminder that if your child is unwell to keep them at home until they are well again. If we all play our part in doing this, it helps reduce the spread to other students and staff at school.

Student Learning Resources (previously known as bookpacks)

During the school holidays we have sourced all of the stationary, supplies and resources required to support your child's learning for 2023. With a goal of keeping costs to a minimum + saving parents and carers time sourcing themselves, we have purchased the supplies in bulk and will provide them to the students as required throughout the year. We have ensured the purchase of high quality resources. Some of these supplies include: workbooks, pencils, pens, textas, glue sticks, scissors, rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, scissors, tissues + a large amount of specific resources required for Art, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Sustainability and Literacy.

We encourage all parents/carers to pay for the learning resource requirements for their child(ren). An amount of $70 per student will cover these costs for the year.

Voluntary Contributions

All ACT Government Schools ask families for the payment of voluntary contributions. These funds are extremely valuable for ensuring that the school can provide an enhanced learning experience for all students. We will continue to prioritise our voluntary contributions to a new PA system for our school hall.

As we did last year in consultation with our School Board,  we are not going to put an expected dollar amount on the voluntary contributions.

Previously the contribution was $120 for one child, $220 for two children or $290 for three or more children.

If you nominate your voluntary contribution to the library fund this amount is tax deductible.

Building connections…

Modelling calm when we’re feeling frustrated can be difficult, especially when we’re running out of patience at the end of the day.  That’s why it can be really helpful to print out some scripts or tips that fit your parenting style and stick them on the fridge.  That way, you can pause…and respond – just like we want our kids to do.

Here are a few examples, and you’ll find more on their social media pages:

See Dr. Siggie, ParentTV, Maggie Dent, and The Therapist Parent for more strategies on navigating the challenges of family life.
