Overall I had issues trying to come up with this concept since some of the best Comedy in film is usually told through story and unexpected events that seem fairly realistic if not a little ridiculous. Overall I came to the conclusion that Comedy movies are like a randomly laid obstacle course that can't be foreseen for the characters involved in it. So I managed to come up with a concept that involved this randomness but simplified things a little bit.
The actual level setup is relatively simple, just a location for the "anvils" to sit before use so the physics isn't messed up when they fall in and a space for the player to move around in. The Kismet sequence looks a bit daunting though...
Most everything is done through attached triggers set to touch volumes. The mechanic works mainly through one main touch trigger that is located in the center of the playable section that covers the entire walkable area. The main trigger is set to a toggle on/off timer which randomly changes between a time of 1, 2 or 3 seconds.
This sets it to when the trigger is touched, it teleports in a randomly selected Anvil to a trigger above the player and physics takes over; dropping the anvil a bit ahead of the player. Once the Trigger's been touched, it turns off and randomly activates one of the delay timers which turns the trigger back on when the timer runs out. The cycle continues just so long as the player remains on the platform.
When an "anvil" hits the ground it activates a K actor only trigger that switches the physics of the touching Kactor to swimming, which simply freezes the movement of the Anvil at the location it landed. This is more for aesthetics, since it makes the Anvil look more heavy.
Each Anvil has a touch trigger attached to it which is set to a console command causing the player to feign death upon touch. The trigger is set below the anvil so it won't affect the player when the anvil isn't moving, I also attached an impulse actor to the anvil in hopes of it pushing the player slightly making it look like the anvil just knocked the player down and out of the way.
Originally I had it so the player could drop anvils on moving AI bots, but the bots can't be effected by console commands so it ended up not working.
Overall I was pleased with the product and feel it worked out better with the random drop instead of the player controlled drop.
