GDC this year was small compared to last year. As a senior graduating at this upcoming May, I focused on career center more than others, so when I first entered the expo, I was little disappointed. There were a lot of students like me looking for internship or jobs, but it seemed like only few companies were actually hiring. While I was waiting in line, I met some students from AAU college. When I showed my portfolio to them, they were really surprised because of my environment images rendered in UDK. They said they do not learn any game engines like UDK in school. Their portfolio were all rendered in maya or max. After talking with them, I realized that Ringling college has great curriculum for 3D Artist.

On Friday(Last day of GDC), I talked to senior VFX artist from Insomniac games. When I showed him my portfolio, he literally said that I was the first guy who actually brought VFX reel. I was really shocked, and could finally realized why Marty said VFX is really high demanded Job in Game industry. Based on what Jati said yesterday, I think there were only three VFX artists who were looking for job(me, Jati and Jeremy, All from Ringling). I am not sure if Jeremy was looking for job as well. Plus the senior VFX guy from Insomniac games was also the only one VFX artist reviewing people's portfolio

Mostly it was almost same as last year except few things. There were new UE4 features presentation and Oculus Rist+Virtuis Omni Treadmill . I could not attend UE4 presentation because I was talking with Art director from Obsidian games, so I would like to talk about Oculus rist and Virtuix Omni Treadmill . Since Oculus rift was already very popular, it was not really interesting to me, but the Virtuix Omni Treadmill was soooo awesome. It was like "Dream comes ture" that all gamer have imagined. It is small circular shape platform. When people walk on the platform, characters also move. I know that it is still not perfect as real life, but I could see the future of game industry from this technology.
