There Is Only One Level is a cleverly designed platform puzzle game where you play as a simple elephant trying to reach the other side. There is a button in the center of the level which is assumed to activate the door that blocks the exit. Even when you beat a stage in this game, the level never changes; however, the mechanics are changed every stage. In one level, you could be controlling the elephants movement with your mouse, and in the next, the floors might cause you to bounce so high you hit spikes on the ceiling! The game is refreshing and a spin in a different direction, with its simplistic graphics and simple, but challenging gameplay.
The HUD displays the level (there is only one), which stage you are on, the title of the level (which is a hint to its altered mechanic) How many times you have died, and your time (for those speed demons who want to do it faster than everyone else). There are also some menu options under the main HUD, including a "Panic" button which instantly kills you in case you get stuck.
The movement of the elephant, which is ironicly the main character is a little hobble left and right, and a large jump. Those are the only controls in the game, which makes the idea simple
One of the levels, which was my favorite overall because it had me banging my head against the table to figure it out, was one where you actually had to exit the game, go to the credits screen on the main menu, watch them, and press a button at the end that said 'unlock level 27". I thought this was very creative and intuitive, even thought it pissed me off for a while until i figured it out.
Overall, i would recommend this game to anyone looking for different. It borders on the edge of simplicity with an incredibly intelligent evolving gameplay mechanic.
