So I decided to demo and review a flash game called, "Blast RPG"! It is a game where you are blasted out of a canon, and your goal is to reach the mark distance needed to get to the next level.
The game bears mechanics similar to the kinds found in alot of rpg games, hence the the title.
You are a knight, who is on an adventure of destroying monsters.
You can earn money by flying thru the air and hitting the coins that are in different places. After each fly thru, when you finally come to a stop, you will have a chance to buy thing from the store, and update weapons or add special abilities to your inventory. You can choose elemental based weapons that will have a critical hit to an enemy of the opposite element. You can also gain experience and gain a level with creatures you defeat.
You can attract alot of enemies as you fly thru, but you'd have to be quick with the type of weapons you use, because you would have to fight all of those creatures, and using the correct weapon will destroy them faster. When you destroy a monster, they give you extra push thru the air for further distance. HP is also a factor in this game, because if you die, you will lose whatever distance you had gained, and start over again.
The more levels you attain, the further you will have to fly, and the harder the monsters get.
Oh! And most importantly, you have a hand cursor that you can use to guide the angle of the knight. So if you've made your distance mark, but is running low on HP, you can aim in the opposite direction to greatly reduce the distance he is going, and avoid any more encounters.
The monsters seem to get repetitive after 3 levels because some monsters are just difference element version of the same creature. But I love the art in this game! It is done in a pixel shaded drawn style, with very crisp lines and use of vibrant colors! Each level has it's own theme and you can travel thru different scenes within a level (like a real ADVENTURE!). The music is the same for each level, which makes me sad, because you can get tired of the same tune after listening to it all the time.
Overall, I really like the fast paced gameplay. It was slightly addicting because I would want to go farther and farther even if I had already passed the marked distance. There may be some replay value as far as beating your distance record, but after beating all 6 levels, you will feel you had accomplished enough.
Goooooo BLAST RPG!
