Summary: Sega's first handheld system. It was the third handheld system sold that was in color; the other two being the Atari Lynx and the TurboExpress.
Work began on the console in 1989 under the codename "Project Mercury", following Sega's policy at the time of codenaming their systems after planets.
The system had a very small screen for the size of the machine. Each players eyes were pretty much glued to the screen in order to see all 8 bits and all there glory. The contols for the system were an directional pad on the left of the screen, two circular buttons (A and B) located on the right side of the screen, along with a blue, semi-circular start button.
The updated versions of the system included a wall charger, other than that, the system required 4 AA-batteries to work. Even then, the system life was only about 4 hours. Plug-ins for the cartridge area were later made compatible with Radios, TV's, etc.
This thing was built like a tank, it could stand up to almost anything that a child could put it through.
