In the Illusionist's Dream, you play as an illusionist, whose lover had recently died. The illusionist had lost the will to live, and stopped his performances, until he has a dream....
In the dream, you have the ability to change into different animals, such as rabbits, foxes, monkeys, frogs, and butterflies.
You need to use all of these animals to get to different places in the game so you can get the key to the door of the next level.
Certain animals will eat other animals, so you need to be careful which animals you go near (ex. the fox will eat the rabbit). As you play, messages appear that inform you what you should do. These messages are from the illusionists dead lover.
The controls for the game are the arrow keys. Left and right is to move, up is jump, and down is duck.
The A button will allow you to turn into animals the you are standing near. The S button will change you back into a human.
The game is really very easy to play, and to my disappointment extremely short. The jump control was also sometimes a little bit difficult to handle. However, the background art was very beautiful, and the story is extremely touching. The music, combined with the messages from the illusionist's dead lover, successfully give you a sense of loneliness and sadness. I really enjoyed that you could turn into various different animals, and that each one was useful in different ways. For example, the monkey could jump extremely far and could jump off vines. The butterfly could fly over to places you couldn't normally reach (which was usually where the key was hidden) As you progressed in the game, the levels turned more grim, changing from forests and grassy fields to walking through a field of fire with "demons" that will attack you if you come too close.
Even though the game was very easy, I still enjoyed the game, and would recommend it if one needs something to pass a little bit of time.
