5 Minutes to Kill (Yourself) 2 is a Comedy Central game. Absent needing a complete review for the purposes of academic success, that would be sufficient knowledge for understanding the game.
Upon loading the game, the player is presented with this title screen:
This title screen essentially demonstrates the entire atmosphere of the game.
The actual gameplay itself is extremely underwhelming. The controls are simply terrible, and moving around is frustrating because the character does not stop walking when you expect him to. Getting past the controls is the first, and biggest obstacle to enjoying this game.
The redeeming value of this game comes entirely through the story and comedy of it. As the player, you want to know what kinds of damage you can inflict upon yourself by interacting with various things, from anthills to wood-chippers. In this way the game relies almost 100% on curiosity and a will for adventure.
Unfortunately, that brings us to the second problem - the interaction mechanics are completely dry. By that, I mean, all the game boils down to when you take away the art is good amount of clicking. Objects essentially act as values that you must click in order to receive damage from them. The designers try and spice things up by adding items that, instead of causing damage, are stored on your person until you find the character that wanted that item. Unfortunately, no differentiation is made between these pick-up items and normal interactive items. All they add is an extra click and annoyance from having to find the character that wanted the item in the first place.
Overall, while the game's premise is genuinely hilarious, it doesn't once attempt to rise above that. The game is great for getting page hits, but ultimately fails at maintaining interest.
