As a child, Takizawa was not interested in video games at all, but instead in drawing and reading comics. He studied design in college, specializing in movies and animation. At this time he was finally introduced to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and after playing “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past”, he became determined to work for Nintendo.
His first work was designing the logo for the SNES game “Yoshi's Island”. Once the Nintendo 64 was released, however, there was a great need at Nintendo for 3D designers, and since Takizawa had some experience, he was immediately assigned to projects. He eventually worked his way up to the position of art director for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Once he started working on 3D design for games, Takizawa began doing character design, largely for enemies. He first created enemies and bosses for Super Mario 64. He then worked on environments as well as enemies for Star Fox 64. For The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Takizawa designed enemies as well as the character Ganondorf. He eventually became art director for Twilight Princess and, most recently, was the Classic Game supervisor for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Takizawa has named comics and cartoons as an inspiration on his art. He is also influenced by science fiction films and novels.
