Although there were no characters in the 1st and 2nd Qix. The version for the gameboy in 2000 did feature Mario in a Mexican outfit.
Visual
Qix is a 2D game with colors. No real art can be seen in the game as it does remind people somewhat of an old Windows Media player screen saver.
The stix are controlled by a joystick and two buttons. One for The blue stix and the other for the red stix.
The name of the game is actually said "kicks" and not "Quix". It was named after his car registration which was: JUS4QIX.
Qix was the first drawing game. No other game before this did you create anything to win. Games like this literally was the early the do it your own way.
Draw stix quickly to close the Qix into as small as a space as you can get it. The smaller the space the more extra points you get. The player not only has to avoid the Qix from hitting his unfinished stix, but the Sparx that constantly circle the outside of the enclosing space. Making the game even faster is the Fuse that starts to chase your line when you stop for too long. It doesn't seem like an action game at first glance, but with another look at the time at which it was made and what many other action games looked like it was truly a strange game compared to other puzzle games.

The sounds in qix are not as soothing as other games. The low and rigid hum of the Qix always hearing it's speed makes the player paranoid of where the random lines will hit them or when it will move from its slow blue mode to it's green, yellow, and furious high speed red.
