James Hawkins graduated from Madison University in Harrison, VA with a BFA. Then he got a certificate in 3DStudio MAX3 from the School of Communication Arts, in Raleigh, NC, in 2001. He started working at Timeline Computer Entertainment as a concept artist, texture artist and modeler for various projects. That was from 2000 - 2001. Then he moved to Sinister Games for a short period of time as a contract concept artist. He was also a contracted concept artist for a few months for Shimmer Studios and for Brom's Dark Age Games. Then he moved over to Ritual Entertainment where he did character concepts for Counter Strike and created weapon and environmental concepts for Star Trek Elite Force 2.
Now James works as a Senior Concept Artist for Epic games and there he has worked on projects like Unreal Championship 2 and Unreal Tournament 3. His most notable work comes from Gears of War and Gears of War 2.
Through out his career James has worked mainly as concept artist and modeler. Since 2003 after he joined Epic he has been concentrating on vehicles, weapons and creatures.
