VR talk
The company we talk to was called ACER. What they talk about was VR Microsoft mix reality. What mix reality is a new head set they are announcing soon. It is compatible on the laptop and on a phone. Also note it doesn’t need those tower sensors either. How this headset works is that its capable to sense any object in your surrounding. It runs really well for the laptop. There was no frame rate drop anywhere. I talk to them if they had any job openings. What they said they are looking for programmers and engineers to work on their headset.
Tuesday
I walked over to the booth where Ubsoft was. I played there games and showed my portfolio to them. They had open job opening at Canada and San Francisco. I was able to meet the one of the lead environment artist for Canada. What he like was my lighting of my senior thesis. How he said that he feels like he diving underwater in the ship. He gave me some crits on my other work that could help me progress more on them.
Tuesday
Water texture in Far cry 5 demo talk. We learned about how to create water material with particle movement. What they said they use a 8bit shader which pixelate water shaders. They have their normal plug into the normal. They invert the pixels textures to click offspring pixel particles. After that they use the Max shader alpha to find the depth of the water. Something interesting that they showed lots of water shaders in here. They had to use LOD distance base min of 3 max. Giving literal 9 per a pixel. 32x 32 was counted in plane mesh. On the other half of the tutorial they showed us how to paint in foam by using noise textures. Using flow maps that help the SPF to control the foam while it blends in to the water.
This water material has couple of bugs into it because of the chipping or the flow motion was not going well with the depth fade. Lot of other bug came in lot with lighting and Ui isues into the water. But the water came out great in the finish for far cry 5.
Wednesday I went to Crystal Dynamics for my portfolio. I got crit from the lead Environment artist how he gave me question about: What do you want to push more?, How do you feel what is important about this scene?, and what areas do you think best develops your skill in are industry?
Also it was really funny when he said about my name because he had never heard anyone that has that. Also during the Crystal Dynamics I was able to get my Tomb Raider art book sign by all of them.
Friday
I went to all the amazon talk. Talking about there new soft ware for games. The software was called Lumberyard. It was similar to Unreal and unity scripting. What I observed in there tutorial was: Exiting game wally add could features, Quick building smooth animation without coding, and loot boxes.
What I really enjoy was there rendering because you are able to post shadow mapping in the level. Like if there is a light that you don’t really want you can but in a box volume there and say shadow and its able to block in no light. You can adjust the opacity or color of the light and hide some stuff that you could not find. The rending I give it would be a 8 but looks better than unity lighting.
CLOUD features for Lumberyard.
On the Exciting Game wally add cloud features tells us about the frame rate with cloud gem. Also this is a Note taker advice that they added in the engine, really useful. You can take notes where and when if there is a problem in the game or in the scene. You can broadcast to people with the cloud so people can see what you are doing. What I like about this cloud is that if there was an error you would be able to find it in second and you can get your work done really quick.
Quick coding for animation.
What this does make quick animation. Like unreal you are able to put many mesh on top of animation but what good you don’t need to a line the same animation on the mesh. It will do it automatically. They are still working on blend shapes for the face but the rigs still look smooth. Plug in for animation is simple to add like: run, walk, punch, kick is already installed in this new software. I’m really interested in learning how to do this because of their simple programming animation.
