Mark Cerny has made a big name for him self in the game industry as a designer and has worked on alot of very well known games as a designer, programmer, producer, consultant and many other things. He started working as a designer very early at the age of 17. At the age of 18 years old he got a job with Atari, and the first successful game he worked on was "Major Havoc" which came out for arcade in 1983. The year after that he, along with an artist and another programmer, made one of the arcade classics "Marble Madness" which was a big stepping stone in his carreer. Cerny has worked for many big name companies in his time, Atari, Sega, Crystal Dynamics, Universal but he is most known for his work with Sony, Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games. In 2004 he got the lifetime award at IGDA for his contributions to the game industry. In 2002 he opened his own consultant firm that focuses on games and visual development.
Mark Cerny is known to be the entrenpreneur of the Cerny method. He describes that method as a strategy of game development after more than 10 year experience of working in the game industry. It is described as a free form pre-production stage that is to explore the possibilies of the game before it got fully developed. To sum it up, if the first level does not excite the player then the idea should be rethought or set a side before to much money and effort would be put in to it. Cerny has a wide experience and knowledge of making games hailing from being a designer and programmer for atari in the late 1980´s.
