Knightfall was created by a UK based development team named Megadev that primarily uses flash.
The Creators: Mike Tucker (programmer), Jon Davies (art/design), and Nick Parton (music/design).
The game Knightfall is a puzzle RPG where your goal is to drill your way through a level. By choosing a story mode you'll be given different tasks as to how you accomplish moving through each level. It combines a simple story with complex thinking to defeat each puzzle.
There are 2 story modes to choose from: story and purgatory.
Story mode will have you saving a princess from an evil devil that steals her away from you. You must drill through levels by grabbing the key first, then proceed to the door.
Purgatory will have you start in the a level telling you that you must fight all the monsters to proceed to the next level. Each story mode comes with a 3 difficulty levels.
The gameplay is fairly simple, and isn't very complex to figure out. You must use your drill to proceed. You can accomplish this by drilling 3 or more blocks of the same color to destroy them. The blocks cascade down and the blocks that you just drilled will be replaced by the blocks above it. The map can also be moved, allowing the palyer to move in all directions to reach the items needed. You use the arrow keys to turn the map whichever way you need. For drilling, 2 mouse clicks are needed to destroy the blocks.
The knight you control is presented with a health and drill bar. If either of these deplete to 0, it will be game over. There's also 8 item slots that come in handy when you need to recover health and such. Money is gained through each level completed and can be used in the shops.
Each location has 5 levels that you must solve. There are also a certain amount of times you can drill within a level as well as items that appear in the level that can help you. The monsters can only be defeated if you are standing on top of them, otherwise they will keep attacking you. Some monsters have better reach than others and can reach over a block to attack you if they are positioned above you. You also gain experience as you kill more and more monsters.
As you go through each location, there will be chances where you can buy items from the shop to either regain health or give you an advantage while playing through a level.
The art for the game consists of sprites that aren't stagnant. There are several different monster, character, and monster designs that appear throughout the game. The blocks are even presented with different designs and colors to diversify them more. The backgrounds are not sprite based, but are 2D backgrounds that help present the overall theme and feeling of the game.
The music isn't overbearing or obnoxious, but it's not something you'd hum to yourself. It's kept simple and isn't distracting from the gameplay and allowing the player to think through his decisions to drill certain pieces or not.
There are sound effects whenever you turn the level or when the knight drills or kills an enemy. This gives it a bit more of an RPG feel, since the puzzle part of the game is much more prominent. The layouts and buttons have a very clean style that goes along with the theme of knights and princesses.
