Summary: One of the incarnations of the Windows Franchise. It was to be the unit that was considered revolutionary in terms of not only office work, but gameplay with it's updated graphics.
Windows 95 was created in August of 1995 with the internal code name "Chicago". The initial design of it to be better then it's predecessors, mainly Windows 93, on many accounts such as being the Windows that merged both "Windows" programming and MS-DOS, eventually creating and showing massive improvement with the Graphical User Interface (GUI), in other words: the multi-task system. Before Windows 95 was officially released, Microsoft sent out to users for $19.95 a 3 1/2 floppy diskette that had a Beta version of Windows 95 called Windows Beta that was a essentially an updated version of Windows. 3.1x, or for some, a new software for a brand new computer. The idea of the program was to test run Windows 95 before the release in November.
When it came to marketing, Windows 95 was a smashing success, having major hit band The Rolling Stone, singing their 1981 song "Start Me Up" as a pun to the start up button on the computer have sold over 4 million units on the first four days alone. Major cities from all over the world also anticipated the release of Windows 95 that they prepared themselves through many ways, example being the Empire State building lighting up it's colors to match that of the Windows. Famous stars Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston of the "Friends" franchise also gave a 30 minute promotional to make people go out and buy Windows 95.
Empire State Building lit up like Windows
Of course, like most systems, by 1997, Windows 95 was over powered by Windows 97, however that is not to say that Windows 95 as a system is still downloadable via the internet and many games from the time period are still being played even on updated softwares.
Hardware
Windows 95 was essentially a program that was either bought at a store or downloaded from the internet, but when it came to going out and buying a computer where it is already programmed with Windows 95, the hardware came with the same thing every start-up computer does:
Computer Tower
Screen
Mouse
Keyboard
Downloadable Software
Although it did not come with the computer program, one could go out and buy "Plus!" add on which had, at the time, Internet 1.0. Users were free to delete it if they so choose to do it, but through out the Window 95's run, Internet Explorer kept updating with new features and better quality.
One of the notable qualities Windows 95 had during it's time was the impressive update of the GUI, the multi-tasking unit. As well as an impressive 32-Bit quality for a computer during it's time. The computer games on the system also showed the computer's highest potential at the time.
