Role of authority in anarchist society

Gandhi thought that the Indian indepence should be started from the bottom. Thus every village will be a repulic or pnachayat, having full powers. The inclusion of lower level  made every village has to be self-sutanined and capable of managing its affairs. The economic basis, the relationship between labour and capital in both agricultural and industrial sectors will be harmonised one reconciling freedom, equality and non-violence through the system of Trusteeship. There should no need for armed forces or the police.

Gandhi, first opposes to parliamentary system and proposes for self-rule, but his view diluted and supported parliamentary system of governance.  Later Gandhi moved away from the minimal role of the state in the economy to state ownership of key industries  as it would provide employment to large number of people. He argued that, the state should look after secular welfare, health, communications, foreign relations, currency and own land as cooperative farming by the peasants. He supports the idea of a decentralised, non-industrial, non-violent, self-sufficient and self-reliant free society; village swaraj would advance the cause of individiual freedom.
