After decades of interaction through organizations such as NAM and NIEO, Latin America's ties with India have developed quite rapidly during the era of economic liberalization in trade and commerce. The Indian government launched LAC programme to increase exports to the region. The Indian exports/import trade with Latin America is about to 30.03 billion US dollars in 2016.  The Indian government has focused in four main countries of the Latin American region, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. 

 India's exports to Latin America consists textiles, engineering products, medicines, and chemical products.  Military relations are also tied with Latin America and became growing market of India's defence exports. HAL has exported hundreds of Light Helicopters (DHRUVA) to Latin American Countries. Latin America's economy stabilizes and prospects for India expanding into the IT sector here is quite high. 

 Brazil is also a BRICS member and fast growing economy. Latin American Countries have supported India's candidature as permanent member of UN's Security Council. Indo-Latin America relations have also been strengthened strategically in "Fight against Terrorism". Latin America also supported India in several diplomatic issues.

 India and Latin America are competitors in the European market, membership in UN's Security Council.  Huge investment of China has tensed relations. Nevertheless, these developments show that there is a healthy growth in the Indo-Latin American economic ties irrespective of vested interests.

 ब्राजील एक ब्रिक्स सदस्य और तेजी से बढ़ती अर्थव्यवस्था भी है। लैटिन अमेरिकी देशों ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा परिषद के स्थायी सदस्य के रूप में भारत की उम्मीदवारी का समर्थन किया है। "आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई" में भारत-लैटिन अमेरिका संबंधों को रणनीतिक रूप से भी मजबूत किया गया है। लैटिन अमेरिका ने भी कई राजनयिक मुद्दों में भारत का समर्थन किया।

 भारत और लैटिन अमेरिका यूरोपीय बाजार में प्रतिस्पर्धी हैं, संयुक्त राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा परिषद में सदस्यता। चीन के भारी निवेश ने तनावपूर्ण संबंध बनाए हैं। फिर भी, इन घटनाओं से पता चलता है कि निहित स्वार्थों के बावजूद भारत-लैटिन अमेरिकी आर्थिक संबंधों में एक स्वस्थ वृद्धि है।
