夢の実現に役立った国際観光学部での学び（ウィリアム）
私はミャンマー出身の留学生で現在４年生のウィリアムです。高校卒業後、2017年に来日しました。将来観光業界で働きたいと思っていたので日本に留学しました。私は日本語学校に2年間通学し、その後東洋大学に入学し、観光について学びました。東洋大学は東京のグローバル大学のひとつであり、留学生にとっても通いやすい大学だと思い、東洋大学を選びました。
東洋大学の中でも国際観光学部を選んだ理由は、主に将来のキャリアに役立つと思うクラスが多くあったからです。ホテル経営をしたいので、ホテル・リゾート経営論、宿泊産業論、経営管理などの授業を受け、ホテル業の基本知識、現状と抱えている問題、そしてこれからのホテル業のあり方について学びました。また、ゼミでは観光業や社会の問題、異文化問題などを学び、実際に国際観光学部が開催していたチューター制度にも参加し、日本人学生と留学生との交流なども経験しています。これは自分が社会人になる際絶対役に立つと確信している財産でもあります。
私は３年生の秋学期から就職活動を始め、言葉遣いやマナーなど面接の練習をしたり、自己分析、業界調査などを行いました。ミャンマーでは就職活動の文化はないためとても不安でしたが、国際観光学部では就職に関する説明会や情報共有など、就活のサポートや相談もできたので大変助かりました。ホテル業界のみに応募し、お陰で内定は４社頂きました。その中から大手ハウスメーカーに入社することに決めました。
国際観光学部には多彩な授業やフィールドワーク、海外インターンシップや留学制度なども充実していますので個人的には観光を学べる大学としてお勧め出来ます。大学の雰囲気も素晴らしくて、東京の中心部に簡単にアクセスできます。東洋大学に入学でき、観光を学び、卒業後は夢の仕事に就けることができてとても嬉しく思っております。
How ITM helps me pursue my dream
My name is William, and I am a study abroad student from Myanmar. I came to Japan in 2017 after graduation of my high school. I wanted to work in Tourism industry and that led me to study in Japan. I joined Japanese language school for 2 years and then I choose Toyo University to study tourism. I chose Toyo because it is one of the global universities in Tokyo and it is very international student-friendly. I chose Toyo’s International Tourism Management (ITM) mainly because of the classes that I think is useful for my future career.
I want to do hotel management so that I took classes such as Hotels and Resorts management, Theory of Accommodation Industry, and Executive Management. These classes helped me understand about the basics of hotel industry the current situations and the problems, the future of hotel industry, and how it is playing important role in tourism industry.
In ITM, I have also learned about tourism and intercultural issues through my zemi classes as we discussed about different topics every week. I also joined tutor program of ITM in which Japanese and international students are in pair and do some culture and language exchange in university as well as in private time.
ITM supports us with job hunting by explaining time frame, by sharing useful information and helping us with consultations. I applied only for hotel industry, and I got four offers, and I eventually chose one of the most famous Japanese hotel development groups that fit me the best. I believe my experiences at Toyo will help me when I work in hotel industry where the guests are from different parts of the world of different cultures.
Faculty of ITM, at Toyo University is the place for study abroad students who want to study Tourism as there are so many useful classes and field works opportunities.
