9ART: Year 9 Visual Art
Course Description
The Year 9 Visual Art & Design programme is split into 5 weeks each of Visual Art & Design. This is so students can have an authentic learning experience in both disciplines within our area before having to choose options at Year 10.
Year 9 Design students learn basic digital design skills in online software to introduce them to the digital design process.
Year 9 Art students develop both creative thinking and practical skills within the processes of drawing, painting, and sculpture.
The Art & Design Department is a place where imagination and personal culture are valued and resilience and a life-long love of art making are fostered.
This course introduces students to the elements and principles of art & design within the context of established art practice. Students will be introduced to the possibilities of making art in response to social issues, class discussion, and critique. Students are encouraged to come up with creative solutions and extension to their working ideas. We sometimes go on an art trip to a gallery for students to experience art in a gallery context.
Visual Art & Design teach important life skills such as creative thinking and problem-solving, innovation, self-management, self-confidence, independence, critical thinking, flexibility, and resilience.
