Course Description
At Level 8 of the curriculum, students investigate and evaluate wider community issues relating to food, nutrition and global forces affecting health promotion, food supply and availability. The students learn to develop strategies and take action to help address issues, applying their knowledge and skills in a practical context.
Topics covered: Investigate a nutritional issue affecting the well-being of New Zealand Society • Evaluate conflicting nutritional information relevant to well-being of New Zealand Society • Analyze the issues of food advertising on well-being • Investigate the influence of multinational food corporations on eating patterns in New Zealand.
Prerequisite
Completion of Level 2 Food and Nutrition with at least two internal assessments Achieved or Level 2 Literacy credits gained from other subjects may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the TiC.
Assessment
Assessments will be a combination of theory and practical work, with an emphasis on an action after a plan is developed in one standard. Two external examinations will be sat in November.
Course contributions
Students are asked to contribute a fee towards the cost of food eaten in class.
