Course Description
Level 3 Photography students are highly independent, following an individual path to complete a 3-board folio. Students further build on technical and photo taking and editing skills using Adobe software. Conceptual and creative idea development skills are refined within the advancement of a concept (theme) of the student’s choosing culminating in a three-board folio within the field of Art Photography.
This course is highly individualised and aims to develop critical, ambitious students. Students will write individual proposals, researching a range of artists and approaches in order to inform their technical ability and development of ideas. Emphasis is placed on building skills in critique, idea development and creative problem-solving. Technical support and teaching is individualised to support the direction of student interests and needs.
We usually go on photo taking excursions in the first part of the year, providing students with opportunities to ‘shoot’ in context.
Students can take photos on high quality phones, and the classroom DSLR cameras. It is an advantage for students to have access to their own DSLR camera but it is not compulsory. The classroom cameras can be borrowed by photography students to work at home.
Topics covered: Art Photography as a diverse practice across a range of mediums and processes - Research and development of an individualised body of work - Photography techniques (relevant to students’ proposals) - Critique and self-analysis - Photoshop and Lightroom skills
Developing Skills In: Photography techniques and conventions, Photoshop and Lightroom software - Creative project development - Creative thinking, problem solving, innovation, self-management, self-confidence, independence, critical thinking, flexibility, and resilience.
