Course Outline
This is a practical class focused on the skills used for the performance of music rooted in theoretical knowledge through the analysis of music skills and styles. Students taking this course are required to have regular lessons on their solo instrument and to make good steady progress throughout the course by regularly taking part in the performance opportunities available.
Course Content: •Performance solo and group Aural • playing by ear and transcription •Researching and analyzing music to understand context influences •Improvisation Skills on chosen instrument •Develop knowledge of different instruments to inform skills development.
Recommendations for subject entry:
Play an instrument for at least 1 year either through the itinerant scheme or with a private tutor
Assessment
There are 3 assessments for this course which reflect the proposed course for Senior Performance Music:
Use Music Skills in a Music Style: Ākonga will engage with a music extract and either play it back by ear or transcribe it, in keeping with the musical style of the extract.
Demonstrate Music Performance Skills: Students will perform a piece of music at a gathering of whānau or friends.
Demonstrate understanding of music in relation to contexts: Students will describe music concepts that are significant to selected music and describe contexts that are relevant to the music.
