Year 9 Literacy

Course Description

In this Year 9 Literacy class, students focus on embedding writing mechanics to enhance their communication skills. The curriculum covers punctuation, formatting, and style. Beyond grammar, the class emphasises syntax, word choice, and avoiding basic errors. Teachers provide explicit instruction, modeling the writing process. Overall, the class aims to build a strong foundation for effective communication. 

Assessment

Students will produce pieces of Non-Fiction and Creative Writing which are marked under NZ Curriculum Levels. 

Next steps

In Year 10, students sit the NCEA Literacy Co-Requisite examinations. The work in this class helps prepare students for these assessments.
