Course Description
Classical Studies is the study of the people, places, and events of the classical world (ancient Greece and Rome) and how they influence the modern world. Students will engage with literature, art, history and religion, and explore community, cultural identity, values, and perspectives and think critically about human behaviour and relationships to appreciate the civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome, and understand the past and the present (L8 NZ curriculum).
Topics covered: ● The life and campaigns of Alexander the Great (Greek) ● Greek mythology and modern film (Greek & Roman) ● Virgil’s Aeneid (Roman)
Recommendations for subject entry
12 Level 2 History, or Level 2 English, or Level 2 Media, or Level 2 Geography and at least one external that corresponds to the source of the 12 credits required to enter the course (i.e: 12 Credits in History as well as passing one of the History externals).
Assessment
Assessment is focused on two internal and two external achievement standards. The total number of credits on offer is 22.
