Course Description
Students will explore and develop an array of digital design ideas. This course will allow students to showcase their strengths and show their understanding of how to develop ideas conceptually and pictorially. Work will be evidenced by both digital and hand-drawn idea development followed by a robust digital design process for the best possible solutions. The goal is to foster creativity in an independent learner, who is confident in their own decision-making and design thinking.
Topics covered: Digital design - Photography - Research and response - Adobe Photoshop - Elements and principles of design - branding / visual identity - Promotion
Developing Skills In: Solutions-based problem solving, Critical thinking, and analysis. Creativity and digital proficiency in industry-standard software.
Recommendations for subject entry
Year 10 Design, 10 Art, 10 DVC.
At Level 1 Students can only choose Visual Art OR Design - not both.
Assessment
Produce resolved artwork appropriate to established art making conventions - Internal - 5 Credits
Explore Visual Arts processes and conventions to inform own art making - External - 5 Credits
Create a sustained body of related artworks in response to an art making proposition - External - 5 Credits

Career paths
Level 1 Design prepares students on the road to many varied creative career paths: Graphic Design, Interior Design, Commercial Art, Photography, FX, Animation and Film, Advertising, Architecture, Education, and more. It also teaches students many transferable soft skills valued in the ever-changing workplace.
Course contributions
Students are asked to contribute $30 towards the cost of a design pack, a memory stick & use of the Adobe suite which assists with learning in class & on student’s own laptops. At the end of the rotation, students are free to keep the supplies.
