Level 2 Academic Athletic Development

AAD200: Level 2 Academic Athletic Development

Head of Department:

Mr Scott Leggett

Course Description

A continuation from students learning in PED100, this course begins to specialise in the academic thinking that would lead to higher education in this learning area, while still harnessing practical learning contexts whenever possible. There is again a strong thematic focus on learning with, through and about movement and students will be challenged to go deeper into the biophysical and sociocultural knowledge which underpins our understanding of participation and performance. We will look at the biophysical principles involved in designing and implementing a personalised training programme, and the biophysical principles involved in learning physical skills for a competitive tournament. Performance nutrition will be explored, as too the influences and strategies relevant to adolescent high performance athletes and their nutrition needs. Also, you will get a chance to develop skills in a specific physical activity to demonstrate skillful performance. This course will complement your own physical activity and sporting goals, and should help you to be a more critically informed, physically active student.

Timetabled class time will be split between practical and theoretical learning tasks. If you just want to kit up and play every day, join a sports team; if you want to learn and grow as a student and a performer, join us.
