MAT100/101/102: Level 1 Mathematics

Head of Department:

Mr Mark Winfield

Course Description MAT100

Students taking this course will be prepared for those Level 2 courses that require some mathematics with a statistical and applied mathematical focus, such as Geography and Biology. It is a course that can provide students who are not mathematics specialists the chance to focus on their preferred subjects, while still enabling progress in general mathematics and providing a pathway to a similar course at Level 2 and then Level 3.

Topics covered:

1.2 Use mathematical Models to explore problems that relate to Life in Aotearoa New Zealand or The Pacific region (5 credits - Internal)

1.3 Interpret and apply mathematical and statistical information in context (5 credits - External)

1.1 Explore data using a statistical enquiry process (5 credits - Internal)

Assessment

In class tests, NCEA two internals and one external assessment.

Course contributions

Students are asked to contribute $tbc  towards the cost of write-on student workbooks, and access to the online Education Perfect website.

Course Description MAT101

Students taking this course will be prepared for Numeracy. It is a course that can provide students who are challenged by Mathematics as a subject. Students focus on gaining the 10 credits needed for Numeracy. It is not likely that these students will continue with Mathematics, although a student who has performed exceptionally well can discuss this possibility with the HOD.

Topics covered:
