Course Description
This course covers a theoretical approach to the economic organisation of a market economy with a practical application of theory to the New Zealand economy. Students gain an understanding of economic issues and principles and the way they affect New Zealand Society.
Topics covered: Demonstrate understanding of the efficiency of market equilibrium • Demonstrate understanding of the efficiency of different market structures using market analysis • Demonstrate understanding of micro-economic concepts • Demonstrate understanding of government interventions to correct market failures • Demonstrate understanding of macroeconomic influences on the New Zealand economy (optional)
Recommendations for subject entry
If Level 2 Economics was taken in 2023: 12 credits at Level 2 Economics. If Level 2 Economics was not taken in 2023: 14 credits in Level 2 English and 14 credits in Level 2 Mathematics.
Assessment
3.1- Demonstrate understanding of efficiency of market equilibrium (External, 4 credits)
3.2- Demonstrate understanding of efficiency of different market structures using marginal analysis-(External 4 credits)
3.3- Demonstrate understanding of micro-economics concepts- (Internal 5 Credits)
3.4- Demonstrate understanding of government interventions where the market fails to deliver efficient or equitable outcomes (Internal 5 credits)
Course contributions
