Course Description
Level 1 requires students to generate design ideas using visual communication techniques for product and spatial designs. Designs need to respond to human interaction as well as including ideas incorporated from cultural influences and then use representation techniques to communicate the final designs.
Topics covered: Design and drawing skills, representation techniques, 3D computer design, model making, ideation and exploration, ergonomics.

Assessment
NCEA L1 is based on a selection of internal and externally assessed achievement standards. Work will be collated in portfolio format.
1.1 Generate product or spatial design ideas using visual communication techniques in response to design influences (Internal, 5 Credits)
1.2 Use representation techniques to visually communicate own product or spatial design outcome (Internal, 5 Credits)
1.3 Develop product or spatial design ideas informed by the consideration of people (External, 5 Credits)

Course contributions
Returning students from Year 10 are asked to contribute towards the cost of $20 Printing and sundries. A Drawing Kit can be purchased if required. A3 sketch books /pens can also be ordered as top-ups. Students who are new to the course will have to buy a Drawing Kit and sundries ($40.00).
